Jamini Roy College is situated at Beliatore, within , . This village is the birth place of one of the world's greatest artists Sri Jamini Roy.The college is thus named to honour his memory. runs on Grants-in-Aid disbursed by the Government of West Bengal like many other colleges in the state. We have been accredited by NAAC with Grade B (GPA 2.33). The college was establishedwith only a few departments and students in 1986 and affiliated to the University of Burdwan. From 2017 it has been transferred to the jurisdiction of the newly set up . Beliatore is a rural (panchayat) area. Local population mainly comprises of economically weaker section of society. Thus we feel there is a need to develop a social network and stronglinkage with people through education. The college encourages spread of knowledge and value- based education amongst young minds. Thereby our students are empowered to build their careers withemphasis on all-round development. We firmly believe that this is required in the current global scenario. Undertaking) to fulfill our dreams of spreading computer education among poor students of this area. The Centre functions under the leadership of the Co-ordinator, Sri Samiran Banerjee. They issue certificates after completion of training. NURSING TRAINING Recently a Nursing Training Centre has been set up in the college. It is running successfully. Many students who have received training in this centre have been placed in various institutions.

NEWLY INTRODUCED CBCS CURRICULUM:

From the academic session 2017-2018, semester-wise Choice Based CreditSystem (CBCS) is being followed. Under CBCS,subjects to be studied are classified into five categories – (1) Core Course (CC), (2) Discipline Specific Elective(DSE), (3) Generic Elective (GE) (4) Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC) and (5) Skill Enhancement Course (SEC). In case of B.A. Programme Course, out of 12 Core papers, 8 Core papers (4+4) to be studied from to subjects of his choice and 4 papers (2+2) are to be studied from two MIL : Bengali/Sanskrit.

To guide students regarding choice of core course subjects (for B.A/B.com general courses only), Discipline Specific Elective Subjects, Generic Elective subjects and Skill Enhancement Course Subjects under CBCS, course wise separate guidance programme shall be held after admissions. After getting detailed information from such programmes, students may choose from options offered under CBCS.

GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSION SESSION: 2021-22 READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING

 Candidates who have passed H.S (10+2) examination or any other equivalent examination in 2019/2020/2021 are eligible to apply for B.A. Course.

 Students who have passed Vocational Course at (10+2) can apply only for B.A. Programme course.  Students who have secured 45% marks in H.S. examination are eligible to apply for Honours Subjects.  Students can select maximum three Honours subjects at a time during the admission process.  Marks of five subjects (Best of five) will be taken into account for making merit list.  Separate Merit Lists will be published for each Honours subject.  Students will have 2 maximum attempts for changing subject after admission in Honours and Programme course.  If marks of two or more candidates happen to be same, scores of immediate previous examinations (Madhyamik Exam result) will be looked into. If it does not help, number of the particular subject in which she/he is interested to apply for Honours subject would be considered for ranking.  Admission into a particular subject in Honours or Programme Course will be closed if available seats get fulfilled.  If any entry has been done by the candidate proved false, his/her candidature will be cancelled.  Mobile Number is mandatory in the application form and that specific number should not be changed without informing the college. Important information will be conveyed through that given number time to time from college and the University. College will not be responsible for any wrong exchange of numbers.

INNFRASTRUCTURE AND CAMPUS LIFE Thecollege is always alert to the needs of the students and accordingly provides proper infrastructural and other support. BUILDINGS

ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING The college has two main buildings. The first of these is the Administrative Building. This building has two floors. On the Ground Floor are located the Office Room, The Cashier's Chamber, The Head Clerk's Chamber, The Principal's Office, Principal's Chamber and the Teachers' Staff Room. On the First Floor the Girls' Common Room and Geography Department are located. There are also classrooms on the First Floor. Loitering in the Administrative Building without any valid reason is not allowed.

ANNEXE TO ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING The Annexe to the Administrative Building has a separate entrance. There are two floors here. The Ground Floor of the Annexe has NCC & NSS office. These two departments are run from the same office. The First Floor of the Annexe has the Students' Union Room and the Boys' Common Room.

ACADEMIC BUILDING The Academic Building is the other major building on campus. This building has three floors. The Ground Floor of the Academic Building has classrooms, the Webel Computer Training Centre, the Computer Laboratory, the Smart Classroom, the IQAC office, the Library, Reading Room and toilets for students and staff. The First Floor contains classrooms and toilets for students. Most of the classrooms are located on this floor. The College Auditorium is located on this floor. The Third Floor contains a couple of classrooms. While students are required to attend classes and use other facilities available in the Academic Building unnecessary loitering or useless discussions are not encouraged here. STUDENT SUPPORT SYSTEM The collage has a dedicated student support system to provide financial assistance and facilities to the students which are as follows:

CLASS ROOMS The classrooms are spacious and airy with proper ventilation and are equipped with adequate lights, fans, chairs, tables, benches, and boards. The college has at least 14 classrooms as of now.

LIBRARY The library consists of two rooms& 1study room with sufficient space. The system is now fully computerized. The library has approximately 15093 books,journals and magazines. Besides these it has INFLIBNET facility through which students can access e-books and e-journals, Bengali and English daily newspapers.Job oriented newspapers like Karmakhetra, Pesha Prabesh, Competition Success Review, Karmasansthan etc. are also available in the library. Syllabi and university question papers are also available. There is a separate reading room for the students. The number of books is increased every year. The college is interested to link-up with the repository and information system at global level through internet facility. Thelibrary is operated thorough SOULsoftware.

LABORATORIES The college has separate well equipped laboratories for Geography practical classes. Laboratories are clean, airy with adequate space and infrastructure and safety measures to conduct the practical classes smoothly. Departmental faculty regularly conducts outside field excursion for practical knowledge ofstudents. The Department of Philosophy also has practical classes. However, there is no permanent structure for their classes which are conducted on ad hoc basis. FREE STUDENTSHIP Free studentship is provided to needy students on the basis of merit and attendance. Applications for the same should reach the principal within stipulated time (as notified).

AID FUND Assistance under the banner of Aid Fund is also provided for eligible students on basis of applications invited through notification.

SCHOLARSHIPS The college always extends help to students to avail various types of scholarships as and when available from Government and other authorities like BCW department, Labour Welfare Department, WBMDFC, and Jindal etc. The college also helps students regarding various kinds of financial assistance like Kanyashree Scheme etc. A large number of students of our college are benefitted from such scholarships.

COMMON ROOMS There are separate common rooms for boys, and girls with adequate infrastructural arrangements and indoor game facilities to enjoy their leisure period.

DRINKING WATER Cold purified drinking water is available on campus. There are water purifiers cum cooling machines for this purpose.

CANTEEN The college has a canteen for students and staff members. It provides hygienic food, snacks and refreshment at affordable cost.The canteen is located beside the Academic Building. Services are available throughout the academic year. There are separate seating facilities in the canteen building for boys and girls.

PARKING SHED Parking shed is present inside the campus for keeping bicycles, motor bikes etc. any vehicle is kept safely there. GYMNASIUM Considering the physical and mental fitness of students, the college has a well-equipped multi-gym. There are several pieces of modern equipment in the gym like treadmill and weights. Many students avail of gym facilities before and after classes.

SPORTS FACILITIES A large playground is present inside the campus premises for games and sports events like football, cricket, volley-ball etc.

IDENTY CARD Identity Card of each student is issued by college authority. Each student should enter the college with valid Identity Card.

STUDENTS' HEALTH ROOM Health Room facility is provided to the students as per need. Measures are taken to support students if they fall in sick while on campus. WiFi Facilities. The college campus has Wi-Fi facility. Students can download study materials whenever they require from college campus.

LANDSCAPE A clean and green campus, enriched with flora and fauna combined with patches of lateritic soil add special beauty to landscape of the premises. Jamini Roy College is located in a well- forested district. Beliatore Timber Forest and the offices of the Forest Department of West Bengal are located nearby. This atmosphere is reflected on campus as well. There are Sal, Mango and Eucalyptus trees within and near campus.

NCC UNIT The college has a dedicated NCC unit whose cadets have won awards at national level. It functions under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Laxmi Narayan Yadav who acts as ANO. Extracurricular activities. ANTI-RAGGING CELL & OTHERS We are proud to announce that this is a fully raging-free campus. The college authority is obliged by Government directives to look into any issue in this regard. Besides this there are other cells like Anti Sexual Harrassment Cell which have been set up in accordance with Central and State Govt. directives.

STUDENT UNION Student Union is the platform to raise various students' issues. The Union, including the General Secretary and Office Bearers are democratically elected by current students.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES As the college is a part of society there are some social responsibilities which are carried out through community development and extension activities. One NSS Unit headed by Prof. Ramkrishna Mukherjee organizes several programmes like blood donation camps, health camps, and flood relief. Awareness programmes regarding AIDS, Polio and Hepatitis etc. are also organized. Tree plantation programmes, special camps and many other activities continue through the year.

SARASWATI PUJA Every year the college celebrates Saraswati Puja with great devotion and fervour. Students, teachers and college staff enthusiastically participate in the worship of the Goddess of Learning.

SEMINAR Seminars and webinars are regularly organized by the IQAC and different departments. Collaboration with other colleges is also a feature of seminars & webinars here. Previous to the COVID 19 Pandemic many seminars were organized. However, since Lockdown and other Pandemic protocols came into force, webinars have been a regular feature of academic life in the college. Many distinguished speakers have spoken on various topics to enlighten all students, teachers and staff. SEMINAR ORGANISED

PUBLIC AWARENESS Public awareness programmes like COVID 19 protocol, pre-cyclone warning to public, traffic safety, blood donation, anti-ragging, anti-drug abuse campaign, legal awareness and cyber safety are regularly organized in collaboration of various agencies like the police, medical department and judiciary.

STUDENT ANNUAL PROGRAMME Annual programme or fest of the students is a major social event in the locality. Not only students but also residents of the locality witness the celebrations every year.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME Annual cultural programme is organised by the students' union and college authorities. Music, recitation, quiz and dance competitions are organised with the entire college in participation. CELEBRATION Remembering great personalities who have inspired this country and the world through generations is a duty that the college respectfully performs. Freedom fighters, founders of the nation, great men and women of international repute are paid homage alike by the authorities, students, staff and teachers of the college. Besides this there are days which are significant from a national viewpoint and international cultural importance. The college observes them all with equal diligence.

PLANTATION PROGRAMME Afforestation is a major issue in today's times when protection of the environment has become a global emergency. In keeping with policies of the Government of , the Government of West Bengal and the United Nations the students are encouraged to plant trees in Plantation Programmes organised by the NSS.

ANNUAL SPORTS Every year the college organises sports events for the students. The college is proud of the athletic prowess of students in various events like middle distance running, sprinting, discus throw, shot putt, long jump etc.

CODE OF CONDUCT 1. Discipline and punctuality are most importance for students. It is mandatory to maintain discipline and punctuality for all students within college premises. Anyone found guilty of breach of discipline is liable to punishment. 2. Unnecessary loitering in classrooms, corridors, offices, library and other places within college premises is strictly prohibited. 3. Noisy conversation, shrill voice, creating hindrance to the conduct of academic and official affairs, quarrelling and indulgence in any untoward incidents in the campus are prohibited. Students found guilty of any of the aforementioned offences are liable to punishment.
