AOS 32 ANOS PROVENIENTES DE PLANTIOS HOMOGÊNEOS Erick Phelipe AMORIM2; Rami Amanda Padua MELO3; Fábio Minoru YAMAJI4; Eduardo Luiz LONGUI3,5 ABSTRACT - Scientific knowledge of native species in different plantations is important for encouraging sustainable forest management policies, especially if a particular species is at risk of extinction, such as Balfourodendron riedelianum. In this context, studies on energy characteristics of native wood are scarce. Thus, we aimed to determine Higher Heating Value - HHV and Wood Density - DE of 30-year-old B. riedelianum of 32-year-old Peltophorum dubium from different origins: B. riedelianum from Alvorada do Sul, Bauru and Gália and P. dubium from Alvorada do Sul and Bauru. We selected these species because they belong to different successional groups. B. riedelianum is late secondary, and P. dubium is a pioneer species. We observed medium basic density for P. dubium and high density for B. riedelianum. Density was higher for both species from Alvorada do Sul. The correlation between HHV and DE showed a significant positive relationship, but only in Bauru provenance. Despite differences between analyzed properties, both species have favorable values for use in bioenergy. Keywords: Canafístula; Pau-marfim; Native planting; Wood quality.     EXPLORATORY RESEARCH RECOGNIZED WORLDWIDE Botany, ecology, zoology, plant and animal genetics. In these and other sub-areas of Biological Sciences, Brazilian scientists contributed with results recognized worldwide. FAPESP,São Paulo Research Foundation, is one of the main Brazilian agencies for the promotion of research.The foundation supports the training of human resources and the consolidation and expansion of research in the state of São Paulo. Thematic Projects are research projects that aim at world class results, usually gathering multidisciplinary teams around a major theme. Because of their exploratory nature, the projects can have a duration of up to five years. SCIENTIFIC OPPORTUNITIES IN SÃO PAULO,BRAZIL Brazil is one of the four main emerging nations. More than ten thousand doctorate level scientists are formed yearly and the country ranks 13th in the number of scientific papers published. The State of São Paulo, with 40 million people and 34% of Brazil’s GNP responds for 52% of the science created in Brazil.The state hosts important universities like the University of São Paulo (USP) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), the growing São Paulo State University (UNESP), Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Federal University of ABC (ABC is a metropolitan region in São Paulo), Federal University of São Carlos, the Aeronautics Technology Institute (ITA) and the National Space Research Institute (INPE). Universities in the state of São Paulo have strong graduate programs: the University of São Paulo forms two thousand doctorates every year, the State University of Campinas forms eight hundred and the University of the State of São Paulo six hundred.

Juss na Serra Negra, município de Rio Preto, Minas Gerais. A família está representada na área por oito gêneros e 26 espécies. As espécies encontradas são: Athenaea picta, Aureliana fasciculata, Brugmansia suaveolens, Cestrum bracteatum, Dyssochroma viridiflorum, Nicotiana tabacum, Physalis pubescens, Solanum bullatum, S. capsicoides, S. cinnamomeum, S. decorum, S. leptostachys, S. leucodendron, S. luridifuscescens, S. lycocarpum, S. melissarum, S. palinacanthum, S. piluliferum, S. pseudoquina, S. schizandrum, S. sellowianum, S. sisymbriifolium, S. subumbellatum, S. swartzianum, S. vaillantii e S. velleum. Solanum é o gênero mais representativo com 19 espécies. São apresentadas chave de identificação, descrições, ilustrações, comentários taxonômicos, ecológicos e distribuição geográfica para as espécies. Juss is represented in Serra Negra, Rio Preto municipality, Minas Gerais state is presented. In this area the family is represented by eight genera and 26 species. RODRIGUES1 1Departamento de Zoologia, Instituto de Biociências, Universidade de São Paulo-SP and 2Departamento de Zoologia, Centro de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil ABSTRACT The tetrapod limb is a highly diverse structure, and reduction or loss of this structure accounts for many of the limb phenotypes observed within species. Squamate reptiles are one of the many tetrapod lineages in which the limbs have been greatly modified from the pentadactyl generalized pattern, including different degrees of reduction in the number of limb elements to complete limblessness. Even though limb reduction is widespread, the evolutionary and develop- mental mechanisms involved in the formation of reduced limb morphologies remains unclear. In this study, we present an overview of limb morphology within the microteiid lizard group Gymn- ophthalmidae, focusing on digit arrangement. We show that there are two major groups of limb- reduced gymnophthalmids. The first group is formed by lizard-like (and frequently pentadactyl) species, in which minor reductions (such as the loss of 1-2 phalanges mainly in digits I and V) are the rule; these morphologies generally correspond to those seen in other squamates. The second group is formed by species showing more drastic losses, which can include the absence of an ex- ternally distinct limb in adults. We also present the expression patterns of Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) in the greatly reduced fore and hindlimb of a serpentiform gymnophthalmid.

This was the central question of this study, which aimed at 29 estimating the minimum cutting cycle for native woody species from an area covered by a 30 sustainable forest management plan. Individuals (n = 240) of twelve species native to the 31 semi-arid region were measured and wood discs were taken from them to collect data relative 32 to: i) volume, by an industrial 3D scanner; ii) density, using a high-frequency densitometer; 33 iii) age, by a growth ring measuring device; and iv) the lower heating value, by an oxygen 34 bomb calorimeter and an elemental analyzer.
