I now Scott Dockery Charter Communications know that she was 79 when the book was published in mid-January 1981, so by now she is probably writing the history of heaven. Second Vice Chair Court Cardinal Casino Fandango Willa has provided me with lots of great Carson City history. For those who don’t know Willa Oldham, go to the Carson City Library and peruse Secretary/Treasurer the Nevada section where one can find a wealth of information on all of Stan Jones Purple Avocado Nevada including Carson City.     Brief History of Carson City, Heart of Nevada For nearly 4,000 years before the coming of white settlers, the Washoe Indians occupied the land along the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range that borders Nevada and California. In 1851 a group of prospectors decided to look for gold in the area that is now Carson City. Unsuccessful in that attempt, they opened up a trading post called Eagle Station on the Overland Stagecoach route. It was used by wagon trains of people moving westward. The surrounding area came to be called Eagle Ranch, and the surrounding meadows as Eagle Valley. In time, a number of scattered settlements grew up in the area and the Eagle Ranch became its social center. As a growing number of white settlers came to the area and began to develop the valleys and mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the Washoe people who for so long had occupied the area were overwhelmed. Although lands were allotted to individual Indians by the federal government starting in the 1880s, they did not offer sufficient water. As a result, the Washoe tended to set up camp at the edges of white settlements and ranches in order to work for food. It would not be until the twentieth century that parcels of reservation land were established for them. Many of the earliest settlers in the Carson City area were Mormons led to Eagle Valley by Colonel John Reese. When the Mormons were summoned to Salt Lake City, Utah, by their leader, Brigham Young, many sold their land for a small amount to area resident John Mankin, who later laid claim to the entire Eagle Valley.

Daniel Pezzoni of Landmark Preservation Associates, to document and prepare historic structure reports for three buildings in the Carson City Historic District: First United Methodist Church, Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, and Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church Rectory. Fieldwork undertaken in March 2008 and subsequent research documented the physical condition, architectural characteristics and development, and historic associations of the buildings. The historic structure reports present the findings of the documentation in text, photographs, and plan and elevation drawings. The reports also make rehabilitation recommendations in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and discuss the potential National Register eligibility of the buildings.     2.5 Miles of History found along Carson City’s Historic Kit Carson Trail Considered one of the top attractions in Carson City by the America Automobile Association, the Historic Kit Carson Trail provides a glimpse into the history of this city, known as the true heart of Nevada, for it is in this city the history of Nevada was born and history continues to be made. The West Side Historic District was placed on the National Park Service National Register of Historic Places in 2011 and borders the sections between Mountain Street to the west, Carson Street to the east, Fifth Street to the south and W. Robinson to the north; though, there are some interesting houses found to the north of W. Robinson located a bit out of the walking district. So historic is our city that the National Park Service has designated 44 local sites on their register. Note many of the homes and government buildings were built from the sandstone quarried by prisoners from the Nevada State Prison, built in 1862 and decommissioned in 2012. While the Historic Kit Carson Trail can be accessed at any point, we suggest you begin your historic tour with a visit to the wonderful U.S Mint/Nevada State Museum where you will receive an overview of the uniqueness of this state and Carson City’s contribution to the overall state history.     The Eagle Street Mint – Where Carson City $10 Gold Pieces Began Their Ascent By Tony Arnold #LM-20-0032 The title of my current offering pays homage to Rusty Goe’s The Mint on Carson Street, and to the name given to our favorite capital city’s first permanent settlement circa 85 after Frank Hall shot, stuffed and mounted an eagle over the Eagle Station trading-post door. Quickly sprinting through the years, we traverse through Utah Territory, encounter Mormons, and come to Abe Curry wheeling and dealing with partners and establishing what is now Carson City, Nevada in 858. After the Paiute people were subdued by federal troops and local militia near Pyramid Lake in 860, the Nevada Territory was ready for creation and President James Buchanan signed the legislation on March , 86, just prior to honest Abe Lincoln taking office. Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina was fired upon by Confederate forces on April 12, 86, and the most devastating homeland conflict in United States history began. Father against son, brother against brother to the tune of at least 63,06 military dead and 47,47 wounded. The total casualty figures are the best approximation available using multiple historical sources. It was during the horror of the War Between the States, that the “Battle Born” state of Nevada came into existence on October 3, 864, when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Act of Congress. I now re-introduce my hero Abraham van Santvoord Curry, who from the beginning envisioned Carson City as the state capital complete with a branch mint.
