Walk with Me Publication with daily meditation for each day of Lent available in both parishes priced at £1.00 per copy

Scripture Study and Reflection in Lent: Starting on Monday 4th March at 7.30pm in the church (not the parish rooms) at St Thomas More: Opening the scriptures: setting our hearts on fire. What biblical text sets your heart on fire? This question is central to our Lent course for 2020, which has been written by Dr Clare Amos for Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. Taking the biblical story of a mysterious stranger who meets two people journeying on the road to Emmaus as its starting point, the course invites us to ‘open the scriptures’ and read them with both our hearts and our heads.

Count Your Blessings is a Christian Aid resource which encourages us to do something special each day of Lent. It might be going without something, showing generosity to another or changing a behaviour for the day to protect the climate. Follow the daily suggestions online at https://www.christianaid.org.uk/resources/count-your-blessings

Living Lent is an initiative organised by the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) - the Baptist Union, the Church of Scotland, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, working together for peace and justice. Living Lent encourages individuals to make a significant personal commitment to change their life style for the climate: https://livinglent.org/

Grace of Earth published by St Columban Mission Society have a useful PDF document which has some interesting reflections for prayer and preparation for Lent this year entitled https://columbans.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Lenten-Reflections-Feb-2020.pdf

Year of the Word… Great ideas were shared at our meeting on how to mark the Year of the Word in our parish. Look out for the Lent course (see above), followed after Easter by a series on understanding the Bible – everything you wanted to ask about the Bible but were afraid to ask, as well as links to resources for home study and reflection, Lectio Divina groups and a 'Questions' box at the back of the Church to allow parishioners to ask questions that come to mind after listening to the Liturgy of the Word (including the homily). There was also a suggestion to re-instate the 'View from the Pew' articles in the newsletter, and an exploration of virtual groups and live streaming for those who can't get out to meetings. Any more ideas and any suggestions of links/resources, please feel free to email Catherine [email protected]

Responding to Laudato Si… Tip of the week … Change the way you wash clothes Washing machines and tumble dryers contribute significantly to heat-trapping greenhouse gases accumulating in the atmosphere. Washing clothes in cold water and drying them outside on a line, when the weather allows, rather in a washing machine would save 247kg and 210kg of CO2 a year respectively.
