The rate of technical advance and innovation in agriculture has increased, generating inescapable economic forces. The organisation of production and marketing, as well as the social structure, come inevitably under stress. In February 1966 the Agricultural Adjustment Unit was established within the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. This was facilitated by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation at Battle Creek, Michigan, U.S.A. The purpose of the Unit is to collect and disseminate information concerning the changing role of agriculture in the British and Irish economies, in the belief that a better understanding of the problems and processes of change can lead to a smoother, less painful and more efficient adaptation to new conditions. Publications To achieve its major aim of disseminating information the Unit will be publishing a series of pamphlets, bulletins and books covering various aspects of agricultural adjustment. These publications will arise in a number of ways. They may report on special studies carried out by individuals; they may be the result ofjoint studies; they may be the reproduction of papers prepared in a particular context, but thought to be of more general interest.

This draft has since been made as a UK Statutory Instrument: The Durham (Electoral Changes) Order 2012 No. 1394 EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) This Order makes changes to the electoral arrangements for the county of Durham following recommendations made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. The area of the county remains unchanged. The electoral changes apply in respect of local government elections to be held on and after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2013. Article 4 abolishes the existing electoral divisions of the county and replaces them with 63 new ones.     Durham Johnston Educational Fund The Durham Johnston Educational Fund supporting pupils (past and present) by providing grants of between £100 and £250 to individuals who meet the following criteria: • Currently aged 24 or under (and will be at the start of the activity for which this funding is intended) • Have at any time attended (for a period of two or more years) one of the following eligible schools: o Belmont Community School o Durham Community Business College o Durham Johnston Comprehensive School o Durham Sixth Form Centre o Durham Trinity School and Sports College o Framwellgate School, Durham o St Leonard’s RC Comprehensive School Priority will be given to pupils currently resident in Durham City1 and have been so for a period of two or more years. If you live with your parents or guardian(s) or you are living away from Durham City whilst attending University, but your parent(s)/guardian(s) live in Durham City, the residency in Durham City relates to the address of your parent(s)/guardian(s). If you are married or have lived independently and supported yourself for a period of 12 months or more, the residency in Durham City relates to your address.     County Council 25 February 2015 Council Tax Setting in Order to Meet the County Council’s Council Tax Requirement for 2015/16 Report of Cabinet Councillor Simon Henig, Leader of the Council Purpose of the Report 1 To provide Council Members with financial information and financial forecasts to enable the Council to calculate and set the Council Tax for 2015/16. Council Tax Levels 2 The Local Government Finance Act 1992 and subsequent amendments ( ‘The Act’) requires the County Council to set its Council Tax before 11 March 2015. 3 The Localism Act 2011 and the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 have made significant changes to the Local Government Finance Act 1992, and now require the County Council as ‘billing authority’ to calculate its ‘council tax’ requirement for the year. 4 In setting the Council Tax, the County Council is required to make certain calculations and to approve a number of resolutions in accordance with the Act and the detailed calculations are set out in Appendices 2 to 5. 5 The recommended basic Council Tax at Band D for the County Council is £1,334.43. The Council Tax at Band D including the Fire and Police precepts is £1,591.12. 6 County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority set a Band D Council Tax of £93.96 at its meeting on 12 February 2015. 7 The Durham Police and Crime Commissioner set a Band D Council Tax of £162.73 at its meeting on 3 February 2015. 8 There will also be an additional Council Tax in any parished area where a precept has been served on the council as billing authority, and in the former City of Durham District Council area an additional sum for the Charter Trustees for the City of Durham.
