Oscars 2021: Seven EU-supported films are nominated for 14 prestigious awards Seven films supported by the Creative Europe MEDIA programme have gathered a total of 14 nominations in this year’s edition of The Oscars. “The Father” by Florian Zeller tops the ranking as it competes in six different categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. “Druk - Another Round” by Thomas Vinterberg, which received EU support both for its development and distribution, is nominated for Best Director and Best International Feature Film. Furthermore, “Quo Vadis, Aida?” by Jasmila Žbanić, “Wolfwalkers” by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” by Will Becher and Richard Phelan, “The Mole Agent” by Maite Alberdi and “Pinocchio” by Matteo Garrone compete in diverse categories such as Best Documentary and Best Animated Feature Film. The winners will be announced on 25 April during the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony. Overall, the EU has invested over €1.9 million through the MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe programme for the development and international distribution of the above films. These productions will also be featured in the framework of the 30 years of MEDIA campaign, which celebrates the EU’s continued support to the audiovisual industry. In addition to promoting content, talent and platforms funded throughout the last three decades, the campaign aims to showcase the work of the industry behind the scenes and the impact of EU funding.
