LTD. EIA/EMP Report located within 500 meters from the boundary of core zone for cumulative impact assessment, an area equivalent to about 100 ha (1 sq.km.) is considered as “extended core zone”. The objective of the extended core zone concept is for cumulative impact assessment. Therefore, the study area includes the "core zone", “extended core zone” and the "buffer zone". 2.2 Study period The study period for the EIA is March, April & May (2020) (Pre-monsoon season). 2.3 Components of study The environmental baseline study includes inventory of physical, ecological and socio-economic parameters. The baseline environmental parameters for various components viz., ambient air, ambient noise, water (surface and ground), soil samples were collected and analysed forvarious parameters through M/s Standards Environmental & Analytical Laboratory, a laboratory accredited with National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL). The baseline data of ambient air, ambient noise, surface water & ground water and soil of the buffer zone carried out for project located in the extended core zone & core zone (M/s Sera Granites India Pvt. Ltd.), monitoring carried out March & May, 2020, as permitted as per the norms of MoEF&CC, is made use in the instant project. Further the studies related to ecology and biodiversity, socio-economic profile of the area, traffic and road network pattern etc. were carried out by the NABET approved Functional Area Experts. 2.4 Meteorological parameters : Wind rose – A wind rose diagram is prepared and as per which the pre- dominant wind direction is from West to East direction. 2.5 Air Interpretation w.r.t. National Standards All the analyzed values of all parameters of the core zone, extended core zone and the buffer zone are well within the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Page 3 of 13 QUARRY PROJECTS OF M/s SERA GRANITES INDIA PVT. LTD. EIA/EMP Report Interpretation w.r.t. project surroundings The analysed values of the parameters w.r.t. the project site and the surroundings are compared. The values of PM10 & PM2.5 of the core zone (proposed mine lease area) is higher than the values of the extended core zone. This increase is due to the current mining activities near the mine lease area vehicular movements near the core zone as per the mining activity details of cluster. 2.6 Noise & Vibration Noise The analyzed values of the parameters (Noise) w.r.t. the project site and the surroundings are compared. There is not much variation on values of the ambient noise levels of the core zone and the surroundings. Vibration From the various vibration studies carried out by nationally reputed agencies as reported above, it is inferred that blasting operations may be conducted in the stone quarry using 32 mm diameter blast holes drilled with hand held jackhammer to a depth of 5ft (1.5 m), each hole charged with a maximum of 500 gms of explosive, the PPV (peak particle velocity) (measure of vibration level) due to the blasting at the nearest structures located within the vicinity nearer to the blasting site are well within the safe values prescribed by Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and therefore, there is no damage to any of the structures available within the vicinity. As per the calculation of Vibration level due to blasting by using explosives from the proposed quarry site is 11.457 mm/sec. The Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) with the quantum of explosive similar to the mining practices in the extended core zone at the structures located near the quarry sites are found to be well within the permissible standards set by the DGMS. Page 4 of 13 QUARRY PROJECTS OF M/s SERA GRANITES INDIA PVT. LTD. EIA/EMP Report 2.7 Water Environment The water in mining operations is mostly used for green area development, dust suppression, water sprinkling on road, vehicle washing and for domestic use. The specific water consumption for various purposes is worked out and total water requirement will be 22 KLD. The ground water table in the vicinity of the core zone is in 5m to 10 m below the ground level of the lowest contour. As per the ground water contours carried out for the core zone and extended core zone, it is also observed that part of the area in the said zone, ground water table is in 0-5 meter (lowest contour). Therefore, it is advisable to limit the mining operation at the lowest level of is at 200m AMSL. Any mining activity below this level will intersect the ground water table and therefore the prior permission from Ground Water Board is to be obtained . Ground Water All the parameters of the ground water are within the acceptable limit and water is fit for drinking purposes except total coliform parameter. Surface Water All the parameters of the surface water are within the acceptable limit and water is fit for drinking purposes except for the parameters for total iron and total coliform. 2.8 Land Environment As per the Land Use / Land Cover Classification System, the existing land use within the study area is about 75% of the land is Plantation area, about 1.5% land is crop land, about 6 % of the land is rural area and remaining land is covered with other land use / land cover.

It is for the first time in India that such an assessment of impact of natural disasters on Biodiversity was conducted at LSG level and it is a collaborative effort of BMC and Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB). More importantly each of the 187 BMCs who were involved had also outlined the major causes for such an impact as perceived by them and suggested strategies for biodiversity conservation at local level. Being a study conducted by local community all efforts has been made to incorporate practical approaches for prioritizing areas for biodiversity conservation which can be implemented at local level.
