The action is good, the effects are good, but it is the manner of delivery of it all that brings this to greatness. The acting is solid, some characters are less developed than others but I did not feel that this hurt the movie at all. Should you see it? If you did not enjoy Guy Ritchie's other works, especially the Sherlock Holmes films then you may have issues with his style, but if you were entertained by any of his other films then there should be no reason for you to King Arthur be entertained King Arthur also.     TWO SIDES OF A TRIANGLE: THE BEGINNING OF GAWAIN’S PENTANGLE IN SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT Our endeavour in this paper is none other than that of studying the role that the Gawain-poet has assigned Arthur within the thematic development of the tale. We believe that in Arthur’s behaviour lies the true relevance of the story, for without his idiosyncratic tendency to fantasize, the narrator could not have defended the apparition of the Green Knight in Camelot beyond the level of fairy tale. Many are the factors that justified this apparition. Yet, the most basic not to say elementary one resides in the event that Arthur is a king: king of Camelot. What Arthur is affects the way in which he conducts courtly issues, such as celebrations, and this is not a trivial question. He is a king who has a way of being that is not only unique but unmistakable: he is a very young king, a king who owing to his tendency to fantasize maintains intact a habit, or custom, that has little or nothing to do with the social reality of his own time and environment. Certainly Arthur’s character conditions the way in which he understands what a court is, and therefore the behaviour of his courtiers. Surely the Gawain-poet expects his readers to see Arthur in this light: a reader who must reach a constructive conclusion about the role that Arthur plays in the thematic development of the story. Accordingly the poet offers an ample number of relevant elements concerning Arthur’s behaviour, that must be analyze and thus judged correctly.

    In the Time of King Arthur Arthurian legend refers to a body of medieval literature whose principal subject is the exploits of Arthur, a sixth century British king who fought to protect Britain from fierce Germanic tribes. Originally concerned with the history of Arthur and the "Matter of Britain," the legend developed into a more literary than purely historic form during the Middle Ages, incorporating elements of Celtic myth and medieval chivalry. By the twelfth century, Arthurian legend had become established in the literature of France, Germany, Italy, and other countries resulting in a great diversity of Arthurian characters, themes and motifs. Scholars divide Arthurian legend into two broadly overlapping domains, the "pseudo-historical Arthur" and Arthurian romance. The historical aspect of Arthurian legend developed chiefly in the British Isles. There Arthur's name is mentioned in conjunction with a number of battles in chronicles and poems that elaborate on the theme of Arthur as a heroic warrior king. Many latter chronicles that present a glorified portrayal of Arthur transgress historical fact, but in so doing, introduce new motifs such as the Isle of Avalon, the figure of Merlin, and the sword Exalibur. The flowering of Arthurian romance occurred in France during the late twelfth century. The numerous verse romances consolidate many of the legend's best known features: the romance of Lancelot and Guinevere, Sir Gawain as a model of noble conduct, and the quest for the mysterious Holy Grail. These romances shifted attention away from Arthur toward his illustrious knights of the round table. By the thirteenth century, Arthurian romances shift the treatment of the material from verse to prose.

There was a sharp rap at the chamber door, and a servant entered grinning happily. “You have a son,” he told the king. Uther’s joy knew no bounds. When he was ushered into Queen Igerna’s bedchamber, Uther looked lovingly at mother and son. “The boy’s name shall be Arthur,” he declared, “and he shall be a great king. For Merlin [the magician] has foretold that he will one day rule the greatest kingdom under heaven.” But Uther’s happiness did not last. His beloved queen died soon after Arthur’s birth, and sadness sapped the king’s spirit. He lost interest in ruling, and Merlin was unable to rouse him from his melancholy. “Unrest grows throughout the land,” Merlin warned. “Your old foes are rising in rebellion. Give the babe into my keeping, for you have enemies even at court.” Anxious for his son’s safety, Uther agreed. So Merlin, disguised as a beggar, took the infant Arthur to sir Ector and his lady, who lived some distance from the court and all its dangers.
