SANTA CLAUS FUND 2020 Donors List It was an especially challenging year for everyone. But with your help, we did it. As The Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund puts the ribbon on another successful year, we want to thank our incredible and indispensable Santa Claus Fund donors. With their help, we have put smiles on the faces of 45,000 children. So in a year when we were all told to stay apart, it’s by coming together that we’ve made something magical happen. Open the pages to see the names that helped raise over $1.7 million… Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund Thank You Feature U 2 Together we made the holiday season a little brighter for so many children. If it takes a village to raise a child, how many people do you think it takes to get 45,000 gift boxes to children over the holidays? From first-timers to those who have been doing it for 50 years, we want to thank the volunteers that make this massive undertaking possible. ’Tis the season for giving indeed. Rick Madonik photo Santa Claus Fund warehouse staff celebrate another successful year of giving. Rick Madonik photo Superfan Nav Bhatia joins Toronto Star owners Paul Rivett and Jordan Bitove at the warehouse. Rene Johnston photo After volunteering for 15 years, David Gurley came up with the perfect 2020 accessory to wear while delivering gift boxes. In 1906, Toronto Star Founder, Joseph E. Atkinson used The Toronto Star Newspaper to tell readers the stories of needy children. He asked readers to contribute money, which was used to buy approximately 100 Christmas gifts. So, certainly, while the number of gift packages has changed with the times, the basic concept remains the same. Rene Johnston photo Maria Lopez (aka Chica) joins Toonto Star publisher Jordan Bitove to deliver toys to Central Neighbourhood House. Most of the children receiving the gift box are referred to us by more than 100 social and community service agencies. Several come from families who are struggling financially, may be single-parent families and newly landed immigrant homes. In many cases, this may be the only gift they receive during the holidays.
