SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “GREEN ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY” Department of Economics, conducted a two day Multidisciplinary International Conference on the topic "Green Economy and Environment Sustainability" on 18th and 19th January 2018. The conference shed the light on different ways to protect our environment by opting the alternatives available for us. Conference discussed about the different issues related to the subject, particularly energy efficiency, since we are facing energy crisis today.     Sustainable Livelihood Community Level Assessment of Wayanad, Kerala A thesis submitted by ALLISON PLATT in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Urban Environmental Policy and Planning TUFTS UNIVERSITY May 2016 Adviser: Ann Rappaport Reader: Julian Agyeman ABSTRACT This needs and capacity building assessment examined environmental, economic, and social conditions at a community level in Wayanad, Kerala, India, to document community- identified challenges, existing assets, as well as unmet needs. Sustainable livelihood security at the household level was assessed using purposeful sampling of select vulnerable groups prioritizing women, tribals and agricultural workers through surveys and focus groups. Interviews with seven local non-profit leaders further document existing services and programs within the community. Wayanad faces challenges including land use change, a lack of waste management, gender inequality, and unfavorable market conditions, particularly for farmers. The district has an existing network of capable organizations dedicated to sustainable living that are well connected to government planning and funding. Demand for increased services and programs can expand on the existing capacity within the community to address Wayanad’s challenges.
