Incumbent, Trinity Streetsville, the Diocese of Toronto (York-Credit Valley) Incumbent, Trinity Streetsville, The Diocese of Toronto (York-Credit Valley) The Bishop of York – Credit Valley seeks to appoint an Incumbent to the Parish of Trinity Anglican Church, Streetsville in Mississauga. Trinity is a broad evangelical Anglican church with the mission to change the world one life at a time by multiplying people who ‘Love Jesus, Live Like Jesus, and Lead Others to Jesus’. On an average Sunday, 430 adults worship at Trinity. Services are held at 9:15 and 11:15 AM, and are intentionally informal to offer an alternative to the traditional Anglican service, but still include elements of traditional Anglican liturgy. Vestments are not usually worn by the clergy, and the parishioners often attend in casual wear. These services feature a mix of contemporary praise songs and hymns, with clear, relevant sermons which are supported by multimedia presentations. Services also include Scripture reading and prayer, and open table communion (seekers are welcome). Sunday morning sermons are also video-recorded each week, and viewable on the church website. Trinity currently includes a staff of seven, and the incumbent is also supported by a board consisting of the wardens, treasurer, and deputy wardens. The church is well maintained, has no debt, and some 330 envelope holders contribute $850,000 to an annual total budget of just under a million dollars. The congregation includes a large number of engaged lay leaders and volunteers, and it is very active through the week, connecting in small groups, offering learning and discipleship opportunities, and supporting members facing life challenges through congregational care. Trinity proclaims the love of Christ by sharing the gospel, meeting people where they are, and serving them in significant ways. The church also serves the local community through ministries including a Christian debt counselling program, an English as a Second Language (ESL) course, a COPING program for those going through a time of mourning, and Stephen Ministry to share Christ’s love with those going through life challenges. Trinity also works in partnership with other Christian ministries including The Open Door, the DAM Youth Drop-In Centre (both of which were founded by Trinity members) and Eden Community Food Bank. All these ministries include Trinity members in their leadership, staff, and volunteers. The church also extends its reach through partnerships with international organizations, with members fundraising and travelling to Central America, South America, and Africa to build homes and schools. Trinity is located in the York-Credit Valley area in the Diocese of Toronto. Streetsville, or “The Village in the City” as it is known, is a thriving community in the northwestern corner of Mississauga, Ontario. Although the former village is surrounded by modern suburban development, local residents and merchants have worked to retain Streetsville’s small-town charm. The area has the highest concentration of heritage buildings in Mississauga. The annual Streetsville Founders’ Bread and Honey Festival celebrates the founding of the village. Formed in 1974, Mississauga is home to a population of over 752, 000 residents representing cultures from around the world. Mississauga is located about 30 minutes west of Toronto with easy access to major highways (401, 403, 407 and the QEW) and Toronto Pearson International Airport. There are also many parks, green spaces, and biking/walking paths (Mississauga is the fourth most walkable large city in Canada according to Walk Score). There is also access to theatre, arts and culture e.g. Living Arts Centre, Meadowvale Theatre, museums and many restaurants for dining. Mississauga is home to several major corporate headquarters. In addition to the Mississauga campus of the University of Toronto, two major hospitals are located in Mississauga – Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre – forming the Trillium Health Partners. Mississauga is also the location of major shopping centres – Erin Mills Town Centre, Square One Shopping Centre, and several outlet centres. The parish was founded in 1841 serving the town of Streetsville, which in 1974 was amalgamated with the City of Mississauga. Hazel McCallion, a longtime member of Trinity Anglican Church, went on to become the mayor of Mississauga and remains as one of Canada's longest-serving and best-known mayors. Trinity experienced rapid growth upon the arrival of Harold Percy in 1987, and underwent a significant building expansion in the late nineties. During the renovations, the building was destroyed by arson, and rebuilt as a totally new structure which opened in 2000. Harold Percy retired in 2010, and Mark Leach moved from Australia as the new incumbent to lead the church through a process of transition and visioning for the future. Due to family commitments, Mark Leach will be returning to Australia at the end of the year, resulting in the search for a new incumbent for this parish. For more information, please visit the parish website: www.trinitystreetsville.org. Clergy who would like to discuss this possibility further, with the permission of your bishop, are asked to contact The Right Reverend Philip Poole, Suffragan Bishop, Diocese of Toronto, Bishop of York-Credit Valley Area, at: 135 Adelaide Street E., Toronto ON M5C 1L8, or by e-mail at: [email protected] The deadline for applications is July 25th, 2014. .
