Our opponents today are Bearsted FC. Over the years we've had some great games and its good to see our friends from their Committee, Management Team and supporters .

On the pitch we've had a pretty good run . Wins over Beckenham Town and Erith & Belvedere in the league were soured by a shocking display at Sheppey in the FA Cup. Last week we went to Guildford in the FA Vase and recorded a 3-0 win . We played really well for large parts of the match and hopefully we can maintain that sort of form.

In the last couple of weeks both Manager Peter Sweeney and Assistant Phil Wilson have left the club. I’d like to thank them for the efforts put in over the last few months and wish them success in the future. I've been covering the dug-out ably assisted by Scott Kinch for the last couple of matches . I'm thoroughly enjoying my ‘temporary’ stay and the players have been fantastic to work with . Without advertising, I've have been inundated with applicants for the Manager's role. The Directors have met and we know exactly the type of person needed . We will not be rushing into making a new appointment, but like wise, it won't be months .

Congratulations to Glebe Under 18s on their victory in the FA Youth Cup this week. They beat East Grinstead 3-1 .Our under 12s won the Bomlieans pre season tournament on Sunday. Well Done .

I hope you have a great afternoon and with a bit of luck we'll have a few more points at 5 o'clock

Rocky

Glebe FC were founded in 1995 by the present Chairman & his wife, Rocky and Grace McMillan.

From humble beginnings with just 1 U8 team, the club has progressed at various stages, today hosting over 20 Junior Teams, 1 Vets Side, 1 Ladies Senior Side, and of course the First XI. We now have over 300 club members.

We are based in Chislehurst Kent, with 15 acres of grounds comprising of . 5 pitches, a new stadium pitch, floodlit training area, multi‐purpose gym and a modern bar and reception rooms

It hasn't always been easy. For years Glebe were nomads, winning every Junior Trophy that could be won, including 10 London County Cups at various ages, but never seemingly able to find 'a home of its own'. However, we never gave up and moved into our 'New Home 'in September 2014.

Also in 2014 Glebe FC won the prestigious 'London FA Standard Charter Community Club of the Year Award', voted by the Executive Committee of the London FA.

After progressing through the age groups and becoming a regular feature in Kent Youth Leagues, it was decided by the Committee, back in 2010, to form a Senior Section. We are now in our 5th Season. The initial 2 years we ground-shared at Holmesdale FC. When Old Elthamians Rugby Club experienced differences with the Land- lords, we were quick off the mark and signed a 25 year lease at Foxbury Avenue. With the help of the FSIF (Football Stadia Improve- ment Fund), we have built a stadium which we are really proud of. Glebe FC continues to make new friends in its venture as a Senior Club. Having narrowly missed out on promotion in 2015/16 (where the win- ners of Sheppey v Glebe went up) Glebe went on to win step 6 by 12 points in 2016/17 as well as Runners Up in the London Senior Trophy. This is our third season in the Premier Division

We have a brief yet exciting history as a Senior Club, which follows an exceptional history as a Junior Club. Hopefully more trophies will be add- ed in the years to come, in addition to the Cups and League success.

Wednesday 21st August - Beckenham Town 1 Glebe 3 Becks are fancied to do well this season. They started strong and fast. The pressure told when Shameek Farrell put the hosts into the lead on twenty seven minutes. Glebe held firm and hurt Becks when Matt Parsons scored a scorcher just before the break. The match was turned on its head in the second period with Glebe controlling the play. Scott Kinch rifled Glebe into the lead in the eighty-second minute before Jack Harris - ‘King of the Tap Ins’ - sealed the victory in thefinal minute.

Saturday 24th August - Emirates F.A.Cup Preliminary Round: Sheppey United 3 Glebe 1 The magic of the cup melted away on a hot day on the Isle of Sheppey. Glebe never got out of second gear before stuttering and eventually stalling. After a tentative start, Sheppey took full advantage of hesitation when Glebe had good possession. Ites tore up the left side and delivered a classic cross for Connor Wilkins to finish with a towering header at the far post. Nick Blue had no chance. The break could not come quick enough and with it a chance to regather and start again. As it happened, Itesincreased their lead straight after the break when the Glebe failed to defend a right sided corner. The scoring was completed by two penalties each for handball; firstly for Glebe and then for Sheppey Glebe exited the Cup with a whimper.

Monday 24th August - SCEFL Premier: Glebe 2 Erith& Belvedere 1 This proved an excellent response by Glebe who were well up for the match following the disappointing Emirates F.A.Cup exit just two days earlier. Deres have started the season well having gained promotion last season and were unbeaten when they arrived at Foxbury. The hosts took an early lead courtesy of a first goal by Anthony Dwyer. After that, it was a keenly contested and close affair but Glebe had more of the play. The Foxes held their lead until half time before Thomas Ngegba levelled things in the sixth-fifth minute. There were chances at either end but it was no great surprise when Stacey Long sealed the Glebe victory with five minutes to go.

Saturday 31st August- Buildbase F.A.Vase First Round: Guildford City 0 Glebe 3 This was more like it. One week after exiting the Cup, Glebe progressed to the next round of the Vase. Even the Guildford Citywebsite had this as ‘a comprehensive win for Glebe’. On 35 minutes Anthony Dwyer scored his second of the season when tucking away a cross from a sharp angle. Guildford’s attempt to rally at the start of the second period were cut short on the hour when they failed to clear the ball and Billy Craske pounced following energetic work by Matty Parsons. Glebe was now in full control of the tie and looking a far more organised unit than the previous week. The tie was all but finished on 77 minutes when Jack Harris, who had just replaced Jesse Darko, punished the increasingly ragged Guildford back-line. Glebe now travel to the home of K Sport for the second round tie. Player Profile Stuart Zanone
