The matricula was an official book in which the students inscribed their names when registering. The matricula and the statute books, which contained the university regulations that students swore to uphold, often were liberally illustrated with colorful representations of student life in the Middle Ages. Through the study of these miniatures, mediaeval scholars learn much of academic life and student activities six centuries ago. Father Gabriel soon will publish the records of the University of Paris on the accounts of the English-German nation.
