Digital (r)evolutions, or let’s digit-all Social report 2016 Introduction The Engineering Design Centre (EDC) is a joint initiative of GE and the Institute of Aviation. As the largest engineering design centre in Europe, we provide state-of-the-art solutions for the modern industry, combining the technological potential of our organisation with cutting-edge digital technologies. They are present in almost all the aspects of our activities and contribute to the transformation of business processes. There is no doubt that the use of such technologies requires changes not only in the technical realm but also in organisation, communication with employees and clients, as well as in education and competence acquisition. By cooperating with GE and drawing inspiration from its activities and experience, we make use of tools that support the collection and analysis of data sets, or the so-called Internet of Things. We facilitate the flow of data between devices and develop software for data processing, analysis and presentation. Taking a leaf out of GE’s book, we are committed to transforming our activities based on machines and solutions incorporating intelligent software, thereby allowing for better and more reliable communication. We are active in various areas, for instance in aviation (GE Aviation), including activities related to aviation systems (Aviation Systems) and software (Aviation Digital), in transportation (GE Transportation), in the oil industry (GE Oil & Gas) and in the power industry (GE Power). Using the Predix digital platform (which is dedicated to industry and the industrial Internet of Things), GE Aviation delivers tools concerning technical issues of GE aero-engines.

During what can only be described as a tumultuous political year, our nation experienced a presidential campaign unlike any other I can recall. National security factored promi- nently in the campaign, particularly in several of the debates. AUSA, true to our non-par- tisan tradition, provided a platform for the advancement of a strong defense based on our uniquely American values. “America’s Purpose,” a short, but impactful, document published by AUSA, offered thoughts of how the next president, irrespective of party, might craft an effective foreign policy. This initiative, led by GEN Gordon Sullivan, U.S. Army Retired, LTG Guy Swan, U.S. Army Retired, LTC Douglas Merritt and Richard Lim, presented GEN Carter F. Ham, U.S. Army “America’s Purpose” to the most senior advisors to both leading presidential candidates. Retired, President & CEO, AUSA You’ll find “America’s Purpose” in the Publications section of our website and I encourage you to read it. For us at the AUSA National Office, the biggest change was the retirement of General Sullivan after more than 18 years as president & chief executive officer.

For more information, please contact [email protected]. FUTURE WORLD(S): A Critique of Disney's EPCOT and Creating a Futuristic Curriculum by ALAN BOWERS (Under the Direction of Daniel Chapman) ABSTRACT In my dissertation inquiry, I explore the need for utopian based curriculum which was inspired by Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center. Theoretically building upon such works regarding utopian visons (Bregman, 2017, e.g., Claeys 2011;) and Disney studies (Garlen and Sandlin, 2016; Fjellman, 1992), this work combines historiography and speculative essays as its methodologies. In addition, this project explores how schools must do the hard work of working toward building a better future (Chomsky and Foucault, 1971). Through tracing the evolution of EPCOT as an idea for a community that would “always be in the state of becoming” to EPCOT Center as an inspirational theme park, this work contends that those ideas contain possibilities for how to interject utopian thought in schooling.
