February 25, 2021 President/Président Dear Trainee, Marc Ruel Vice-President / On behalf of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Academy (CCSA) welcome to the fourteenth Trainee Vice-présidente Review Program (TRP) for cardiac surgery residents. Her main interests are valvular heart surgery and aortic surgery. She is the first formerly trained cardiac surgeon in Canada in surgery and percutaneous valve procedures as she did a 2-year fellowship in one of the highest volume Centre in the USA (Emory University Hospitals) in transcatheter valve therapies. Research is also a big part of Dr Forcillo's career. She has a Master in Biomedical Sciences and a Master in Public Health. She is part of a research team at CapeTown (South Africa) that works with the African Union in order to scale up cardiac surgery programs in Africa and mainly access to heart valve therapies. Dr Forcillo is eager to participate in the development of new technologies especially heart valve and aortic endovascular therapies. She also has a special interest in women's cardiovascular health as she is one of the co-founder of the Cardio-F clinic which will be at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM). Pierre-Luc Bernier, MD, CM, MPH, FRCSC McGill University Montreal, QC, Dr. Pierre-Luc Bernier is a congenital cardiac surgeon based at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. He also practices at Ste-Justine Hospital, the Montreal Heart Institute and the Royal Victoria Hospital. Dr. Bernier received his Medical Doctorate from McGill University and completed Cardiac Surgery residency in the same institution. He has a Master’s of Public Health from Columbia University. He completed fellowships in congenital cardiac surgery at Columbia University in New York and the Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Bernier’s clinical practice and research interests are focused on congenital cardiac disease across all age groups as well as heart failure and transplantation in the pediatric population. Jennifer Chung, MD MSc FRCSC Toronto General Hospital Toronto, ON Jennifer Chung is a cardiovascular surgeon at Toronto General Hospital with a subspecialty in aortic surgery. After studying Engineering Science at the University of Toronto, she completed her Cardiac Surgery residency and MSc at McGill University. She subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in Advanced Aortic Surgery at the University of Toronto with the Divisions of Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery. Her research studies the biomechanical properties of aortic aneurysms. Pierre Olivier Dionne, MD, MSc, FRCSC Royal Columbian Hospital – University of British Columbia Vancouver New Westminster, British Columbia Dr. Pierre Olivier Dionne is a cardiac surgeon at Royal Columbian Hospital with a subspecialty in aortic surgery. He received his medical Doctorate from Université de Sherbrooke in 2011 and completed Cardiac Surgery Training and a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences at Université de Montréal in 2017. He completed a two-year fellowship in Advanced and Endovascular Aortic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 2019. David Drullinsky MD., FRCSC. Northwestern University Chicago, Illinois Dr Drullinsky is from Santiago, Chile. He underwent his early educations as well as obtaining his medical degree in Chile. He then moved to Montreal, Canada were he completed his training in Cardiac Surgery at McGill University in 2019. He is currently in his second year as an Advanced Cardiac Surgery Fellow at Northwestern University. His interests are complex cardiac surgery, structural valve surgery including percutaneous approaches and heart failure. 2 | Page Srujan Ganta, MD, FRCSC Rady Children's Hospital San Diego, US Dr. Ganta received his BSc Biochemistry at the University of Alberta. He went on to receive his MD from the University of Alberta and completed his residency training in cardiac surgery at the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Edmonton. After this Dr. Ganta pursued a 2 year fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He is presently a clinical associate at Rady Childrens’s Hospital in San Diego. Marina Ibrahim, MD, MEd, FRCSC University of Toronto Toronto, ON Dr. Ibrahim is an Advanced Aortic Surgery fellow at University of Toronto. She completed her Cardiac Surgery training and Master's degree in Surgical Education at McGill University in 2019. She is currently completing her second year fellowship in Advanced Aortic Surgery and TAVI at the University of Toronto with the Divisions of Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery. Daniel Lodge, MD, FRCSC Eastern Health St. John’s, NL Dr. Lodge received a Bachelor of Engineering and a medical Doctorate from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Completed cardiac surgery residency training at the University of Toronto in 2012 and subsequently worked as a staff cardiac surgeon in St. John’s, NL. Returned to St. Michael’s hospital in 2015 to pursue a fellowship in aortic reconstruction and transcatheter valve implantation. Dr. Lodge’s chief academic interest is medical education– primarily surgical simulation and structured assessment of competency. 3 | Page Tarek Malas, B.Eng, MD.CM, MPH., FRCSC Québec Heart & Lung Institute Québec, QC Dr. Tarek Malas is a practicing cardiac surgeon at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute (IUCPQ). Dr. Malas’s subspecialty interests include complex valvular heart disease, coronary disease, robotics and minimally invasive surgery, mitral valve repair, off-pump coronary surgery, and percutaneous transcatheter therapies. His training was completed at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Harvard University, Emory University Healthcare, McGill University, and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He also has a passion for research and for addressing public health and healthcare challenges. He completed a Masters in Public Health at Harvard University as well as a Chemical Engineering Degree at McGill University. Fadi Mansour, MD Université de Montréal Montréal, QC A medical graduate of the University of Montreal in 2000, Dr. Fadi Mansour completed, in 2006, internal medecine and cardiology residencies in some of the University of Montreal's teaching hospitals. He then completed a 3 year fellowship in electrophysiology /echocardiography in Montreal heart institute and et the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona/Spain with Brugada’s team. Dr Fadi Mansour began practising general cardiology at the University of Montreal Health Centre (CHUM) in 2009 and at the Hôpital du Richelieu, CISSS Montérégie-Centre. His interests are in device programming and complex implantations. François-Pierre Mongeon, MD, SM, FRCPC, FCCS Université de Montréal Montréal, QC Dr. Mongeon is a non-invasive adult congenital cardiologist and clinical associate professor of medicine at Université de Montréal. He trained in cardiology at the Université de Montréal, and in adult congenital heart disease and echocardiography at Mayo Clinic. He then went on to study cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston) and Boston Children’s Hospital. He also completed a Master’s Degree in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2012. Since February 2011, he has joined the Non-invasive Cardiology Division and the Adult Congenital Heart Center at Montreal Heart Institute. He is one of the co-founders of the Aorta and Connective Tissue Clinic at Montreal Heart Institute.
