Initiated procurement of germplasm from NBPGR (National Bureau of Plant genetic 1 Resources) ICAR, Pusa , New Delhi by applying for MTA (Material Transfer Agreement) and got MTA Approval Received germplasm (15 lines/Crop) of five crops (Brinjal, Amaranthus, Bhendi, Maize and bajra). As we receive only minimal 2 amount of seed, Characterization of germplasm and multiplication is being done. A minor Research project has been proposed on the topic “Heritability, correlation and path analysis of yield and yield 3 attributing traits in maize (Zea mays L.)” on 3rd September 2019, and the apart of this project new germplasm lines are requested to NBPGR and experiment with the existing lines is progress.

SHANTHI SUBJECT: CROP PRODUCTION – II CLASS: DAG - A PRIMARY TILLAGE: One deep ploughing as primary tillage was taken up by using mould board plough. SECONDARY TILLAGE: Land is ploughed to break the clods by using cultivator. Later leveling was taken up by using leveling blade Preparation of individual plots:

Allotment of plots: The land was divided into plots of 9m2 and students were assigned with the plot and the crop to be grown. Recommended dose of FYM and fertilizers were incorporated in to their respective plots.

DATE OF SOWING: 11-7-2019 The seeds were sown in their respective plots by the students by following recommended spacing.

All the agronomic practices were taken up by the students including weeding, irrigation and appropriate plant protection measures. Weeding

Harvesting: Short duration crops like Mesta was harvested as and when they have reached maturity. And long duration crops like sunflower, castor were harvested, sundried and stored.

Report on activities performed in students’ farm in the subject Crop production – 2 Primary tillage – It was performed by mould-board plough on 10/06/2019. It was done thoroughly to obtain good pulverized condition of the soil. Secondary tillage – It was performed by using rigid type cultivator on 17/06/2019. It was performed to obtain finer tilth. Activities of students in the student’s farm Students first prepared a layout of the farm and divided it into plots of 3 meters width and 3 meters length (9 sq. meters). The plots were assigned to students by Dr. K. Shanthi according to their roll numbers. Roll numbers - 111717012049 - 102

Each plot was assigned to two students so that they learn to work together and in the process learn the practices involved in the cultivation of different crops. After completion of the layout the students were assigned crops to raise in their respective plots. The students prepared the plots as prescribed for cultivating the crop like incorporation of farm yard manure, application of basal dose fertilizers and their thorough incorporation, preparing ridges and furrows or levelling of plot for line-sowing. Then the treated seeds were sown in the plots on 24/06/2019 and irrigation was provided. In most of the plots germination was observed around one to two weeks after sowing. Then irrigation was provided around 4 to 7 days interval based on crop. Sometimes as there were frequent showers during the crop growing period irrigation was halted and whenever the soil moisture was less than optimum irrigation was provided. Biometric observations were taken first on 20/8/2019 with parameters like fresh and dry weight analysis, height, number of leaves, leaf area estimation, etc. Hand-weeding was done regularly at 15 to 20 days interval. Necessary intercultural operations such as thinning, gap-filling, earthing-up were done specific to crops. Top dressing of subsequent doses of fertilizers was done for recommended crops. Second biometric observations were taken for the same parameters on 13/09/2019. Harvesting operation of crops was performed based on the maturity symptoms and harvesting indices of the specific crops. Land Preparation Individual plot preparation

REPORT ON DUS CHARACTERIZATION OF GERMPLASM CROPS IN STUDENT FARM IN THE ACEDAMIC YEAR 2019-20 (II SEMESTER) LECTURER INCHARGE: Dr. A. Sai harini SUBJECT: Commercial Plant Breeding (DSE) CLASS: FAG Preparation and allotment of plots was done by the students and the land was divided into plots of 2m2 and students were assigned with the plot and the crop to be grown. Recommended dose of FYM and fertilizers were incorporated in to their respective plots. Plant Breeding techniques like selfing and crossing were done and also observations were recorded for morphological traits of crops Amaranthus.

REPORT ON ORGANIC FARMING (CC course) IN SHADEHOUSE IN THE ACEDAMIC YEAR 2019-20 (II SEMESTER) LECTURER INCHARGE: Ms. N.A.Kiranmai SUBJECT: Organic Farming (CC) CLASS: AAG As a part of course work different vegetable crops like palak, Raddish, Spinach, Carrot , Methi, Amaranthus were grown in shade house following the cultivation practices of organic farming methodology and the produce was harvested by the students.

REPORT ON GERMPLASM PROCUREMENT AND MULTIPLICATION OF CROPS IN SHADEHOUSE IN THE ACEDAMIC YEAR 2019-20 (I SEMESTER) Dr. A. Sai Harini

Germplasm Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) refers to germplasm or genetic diversity of actual or potential value that exists among individuals or group of individuals belonging to a species. The full spectrum of PGR consists of diverse type of collections such as those derived from the centres of diversity, centres of domestication and from breeding programmes. PGR broadly includes landraces, farmers‘varieties, breeding material, genetic stocks, obsolete and modern varieties, wild and weedy relatives of cultivated plants, and potential domesticates such as wild species. Characterization and evaluation is the key to assess the potential and actual value of germplasm. Therefore, it is gaining importance all over the world due to the utilization of PGR in crop improvement program. Therefore, department of Agricultural Sciences and Rural development has procured germplasm of different crops like Brinjal, Bhendi, Maize, amaranthus ( 15 entries per crop) from NBPGR New Delhi and the procured seeds were sown in the Kharif season under green shade house for multiplication of seed.
