RURAL AGRICULTURAL WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME The fourth year first semester of B.Sc (Hons) Ag Sc. and RD consists of two components: Industry internship programme (IIP) and Rural Agricultural work experience programme (RAWEP). RAWEP commences in the first week of august of VII semester. The objective of this programme is to provide the students with an opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of the various agricultural operations involved in crop production and crop protection. Under this programme, the students are required to stay in villages attached to an Agricultural Research station (ARS)/Krishi Vigyana Kendra (KVK) and interact with the farmers of the village regularly. They also collect information in the prescribed proforma and carry out extension activities in the village in small groups. At the end of the programme each student is required to submit a report detailing the work done and knowledge gained. A minimum of 95% attendance is mandatory. Evaluation is both internal and external weighting 40% and 60% respectively. In 2015, 35 boys were attached to KVK, Jammikunta and stayed in small groups in the following villages: Bommakal, Akunur, Raikal, Perkapally, Katrapally, Penchikalpet, Manikyapur and Ghanapur. They started from Loyola Academy on 5th August. Orientation programme was conducted by programme coordinator Dr. N. Venkateshwar Rao. A team of experienced specialists (SMS) supervised and guided their activities during their stay. The students conducted an agricultural exhibition on 31st October. The lecturers of Agri Sc. visited the students on various dates. Viva-voce was conducted on 4th November and the students returned back on the same day. Miss Archana was the extention incharge. 16 girl students were attached to KVK, Gaddipalli and stayed in small groups in the following villages: Penpahad, Dhupad, Gaddipalli and Penugodu. They started from Loyola Academy on 5th August. Orientation programme was conducted by programme coordinator Dr. R. Veeraiah. A team of experienced specialists (SMS): Dr. S. Narsimha Reddy, Ranga Reddy, Lavakumar, Ravinder Rao, Sugandhi supervised and guided their activities during their stay. The lecturers of Agri Sc. visited the students on various dates. The students conducted an agricultural exhibition on 28th October. They conducted method demonstrations, surveys and gained first hand knowledge on raising crops. Viva-voce was conducted on 6th November and the students returned back on the same day. Miss Archana was the extention incharge. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES DONE BY STUDENTS 1. Date :23-06-2014 Visit to Grow-more food nursery Purpose: To observe various methods of propagation and cultivation of horticultural crops. Report: The students of AAG have visited Grow more food nursery at Lakshmakkapalli, Shamirpet under the guidance of Mrs. D. Saritha, lecturer in Horticulture. The students learnt various types of budding, grafting, layering and cutting. The students visited greenhouses where seedlings are being raised. The students observed the importance of sphagnum moss and coconut peat .Review: The visit has imparted practical knowledge on propagation techniques and nursery raising. 2. Date : 09-07-2014 Visit to AGRITEX, HITEX Purpose: To study the latest machinery related to Agriculture and various pesticides in the market. Report: Students of DAG have visited AGRITEX under the guidance of Dr. Raja Reddy, Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering. The students have visited the following stalls; 1. AGRI-INFO.COM- Website related to Agricultural information. The farmer can make a call and get the necessary information. 2. RYTHU-RATHAM- The programme providing a toll free number 208 on which the farmer can contact a scientist directly. 3. AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY STALLS- 4.

The department has organized a national seminar LAB-X 2K17 on “current trends in bio technology, agricultural research and innovation” along with the Department of Bio Technology (UG and PG) on 21st September 2017. ● Purpose: The main objective of the event was to encourage and guide students to inculcate interest in the current issues of science and to aspire to get into the field of research which was successfully achieved. ● Report: On 21stSeptember 2017 a national seminar- LAB-X 2K17 was organized by the departments of Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences on “Current Trends in Biotechnology, Agriculture Research and Innovation” in Inigo hall at Loyola academy. It’s an interdepartmental and inter disciplinary seminar. The event included an inaugural ceremony, two technical sessions, poster presentation, and extempore competition and concluded with a valedictory function. The chief guest for the event was Prof. Ch. Venkata Ramana Devi (Dean, Faculty of sciences, OU). The event began with the invoking of god’s blessing followed by classical welcome dance, lightening of lamp, honoring the Dignitaries, Address by Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. P.
