The luxury home measures 500 m2 and boasts large terraces offering splendid views from the above the ample grounds, which lead directly to the sea. Immersed in a naïf, primitive natural setting, the exclusive beach is bathed by the sea of this Nature Reserve of the Tuscan Archipelago, reachable even by air, thanks to the nearby heliport. The very limited number of villas found on this paradise guarantee the utmost privacy and quiet. The luxury house is subdivided into a main exclusive villa of 255 m2, plus four smaller units. An immense portico surrounds almost the entire house: done in a rustic style, it is decorated with wrought iron and natural marrow, while Roman capitals serve as surfaces for the display of unique decorative elements in ancient stone. There's a gazebo in the middle of the ground from which to enjoy the sight of the brightly coloured ornamental plants on summer days: the fuchsia of the Lionard S.p.A. The entrance from the outside leads to a double living room where leather upholstery, blue alabasters and stuccoed walls create an atmosphere that definitely hearkens back to the 70’s: a style also followed down in the other four residential units, each of which features a specific colour and a distinctive, all the units being subdivided into one or two double bedrooms plus a living area with a hideaway kitchen, a bathroom and terraces and porticos where breakfast becomes a moment of sublime triumph for all 5 senses. TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION On the days when visibility is best, the island offers a view that takes in the grandiose sight of the Island of Giglio, even stretching as far as Montecristo and the Promontory of Argentario. It is off this last piece of the mainland that the island with the unmistakable half-moon shape sits: Giannutri, the southernmost island of the Tuscan Archipelago, and the smallest, with its 3 km2 of surface area. The extraordinary beauty of the island is heightened by the crystal-clear waters that surround it and by the reminders of the past, framed in a natural setting that offers one of the most magnificent examples of biodiversity imaginable. Called Artemisia by the Greeks and Dianium by the Romans, in the Historiae of Pliny the Elder the island is referred to as a landfall for seaborne traffic towards Gallia ad Spain, as well as a vacation spot for wealthy Romans. The senatorial family of the Domitii Enobardi chose the island as a favoured place of residence, building the most prestigious seaside villa of the Tuscan Archipelago in the Cala Maestra inlet in the 2nd century AD. Once the property of Charlemagne, and subsequently donated to the Church, the island changed hands any number of times over the centuries and, finally, went to the reunited Kingdom of Italy. The Island of Giannutri has been declared a marine park, meaning that the authorities keep it under especially close protection and control: in the zone-1 areas, within 1 km of the coast, fishing and boating, including entry in the zone, stopping, anchoring and diving, are prohibited. In the zone-2 areas, fishing is regulated by the Park Authority. The main prohibitions are against fishing and scuba fishing. Residents are allowed to fish with poles and hooks, while non-residents must obtain authorisation from the maritime authorities. Motorboats can dock or set anchor for the night in the areas of Cala Maestra and Cala Spalmatoio. The genetic structure of several populations belonging to different subspecies (diploid bisexual, triploid parthenogenetic; epigean, troglophilic and troglobitic) was assessed by investigating 10 enzymatic systems corresponding to 15 putative loci. F-statistics and cluster- ing analysis indicated a high degree of genetic differentiation, corresponding to low levels of gene flow among populations, both epigean and hypogean, still considered to be conspecific. Estimates of divergence times calculated from genetic distance data suggest that the pattern of differentiation and the colonization of cave environments may be related to the palaeoclimatic change of the Messinian and PIio—Pleistocene glaciations. Keywords: allozymes, cave fauna, divergencetimes, genetic polymorphism, phylogeny, Tricho- niscus pusillus. Introduction accepted, is arbitrary and subjective. Thorpe (1987) stressed that most species in natural circumstances Trichoniscuspusillus Brandt, 1833 (Isopoda, Onisci- may have patterns of geographical variation. As dea) is considered to be a polytypic species, widely conventional subspecies are not natural categories, distributed in the Palaearctic region, whose popula- tions have been arranged in several subspecies.

  • Isola Del Giglio E Giannutri L’Isola Del Giglio

  • The Tuscan Archipelago, Born from the Pearl Necklace of Venus
1 AUGUST 2012 CATERINA POMINI 5492 THE TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO, BORN FROM THE PEARL NECKLACE OF VENUS It is said that when Venus emerged from the Tyrrhenian Sea, her necklace broke and 7 pearls fell into the water, forming 7 islands. Located between the Italian mainland and Corsica, the Tuscan Archipelago includes the islands of Gorgona, Capraia, Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri, all of which are protected as part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, established in 1996. Each island has its own history, climate and landscape; if you are thinking about visiting them, you must take into account that only 5 of them are open to the public: the Island of Elba, Capraia, Pianosa, Giglio and Giannutri. Permission to visit Gorgona has to be granted by the Italian Justice Ministry (the Island has been home to an agricultural penal colony since 1869) and access to Montecristo is strictly out of bounds: permission has to be granted by the State Forestry Corps. Having said that, further detailed information and updates can be always found on the Tuscan Archipelago National Park official website . Elba is the largest and most visited island of the Tuscan archipelago and can be reached by ferry from the port of Piombino. Rich in sights and easy to get around, we recommend you visit Napoleon's two villas and the tiny village of Marciana, with its picturesque alleys, small squares and cobblestone streets. As for the beaches, we suggest you go to Fetovaia, Cavoli, La Biodola, Lacona, Procchio and Marina di Campo... they are simply wonderful. Situated about 13 km south-west of Elba, Pianosa can be reached from Marina di Campo, Portoferraio and Rio Marina.

Summary The results of a preliminary investigation on the Decapod Crustacea of the Arcipelago Toscano are reported. For the 118 collected species, some ecological features are discussed, chiefly about cave communities and species living associated with others sessile in vertebrates. Introduction The area considered, located between the Ligurian Sea on the north and the Tirrenian Sea on the south, includes the islands of Gorgona, Capraia, Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio, Giannutri and some less important reefs. These are all set on the continental shelf surrounded by deep waters in front of the coasts of Toscana, and therefore have quite homogeneous characteristics. As I had the opportunity to ieport in a previous work on the Decapoda of Giglio island (in press), this area although particulary interesting, appears to be scantly investigated. Moreover, recently, the human and industrial installations have deeply changed the environment of Toscan sea: human wastes, due to the remarkable touristic expansion, more and more pollute the waters and the in dustrial discharges modify the structure of the bottom and strongly influence the benthic communities.
