  • 'IARRIAGES Introduction This Volume of 'Stray' Marriages Is Published with the Hope That It Will Prove
S T R A Y S Volume One: !'IARRIAGES Introduction This volume of 'stray' marriages is published with the hope that it will prove of some value as an additional source for the familv historian. For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. I would like to thank all those members who have helped in anyway with the compilation of this booklet. A second collection is already in progress; please· send any contributions to me. • Community No
FINAL PROPOSALS Community No. M25 - LLANFIHANGEL Introduction 1. The present community of Llanfihangel lies in the Montgomeryshire hill country, where the terrain rarely rises above 1,000 feet. A number of watercourses and their valleys criss-cross the community: to the south the upper reaches of the river Efyrnwy and its small tributaries the nentydd Dolwar and Llwydiarth, and in the north the valley of the nant Alan. Likewise, a number of routes criss-cross the landscape: the B4382, B4395 and the B4393 being the main, with all but the latter, which leads to Lake Vyrnwy, being of little more than local importance. Llanfihangel and Dolanog are defined as small villages in the Powys Unitary Development Plan. The remainder of the population of this community lives in scattered farms and dwellings and in the rural settlement of Pont Llogel (Llwydiarth). 2. The community has a population of 516, an electorate of 410 (2005) and a council of 8 members. The precept required for 2005 is £3,200, representing a Council Tax Band D equivalent of £12.81. 3. In the 1986 Review the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales redrew the southern boundary of this community to include the settlement of Dolanog and its surrounding area within the new community of Llanfihangel. This entailed a number of transfers of areas to the new community: an area to the south of the settlement and including Gwaenynog, Tirdu and Gartheilin from the then communities of Llanfair Caereinion and Llangyniew, an area to the west of the settlement at Penisacyffin and taking in the wall of the Efynrnwy valley from the then communities of Llanerfyl and Llangadfan, and an area to the east of the settlement at Wern-y-wig and Glan-yr-afon-uchaf from the then community of Llangyniew.

There were about 3,000 fewer records in 2016 than in 2015 - Birdtrack records were lower by c.1,500 and those from Dolydd Hafren were reduced by c.2,000. The British Trust for Ornithology is a very important information source providing Garden Birdwatch, Birdtrack and Bird Ringing data (the latter not included in the chart/dataset above but some is used anecdotally throughout the report). No other BTO survey data is included. The Birdtrack data is valuable though ensuring integrity of the dataset initially provided by the BTO requires significant manual effort.

FINAL PROPOSALS Community No. M19 - LLANDRINIO Introduction 1. The community of Llandrinio lies in the northeastern corner of Montgomeryshire, in a landscape that is defined by the confluence and flood plains of the rivers Efyrnwy and Severn. Settlement in this community is defined by the routes that lead eastwards, out of the county, with most settlement and considerable new development following the course of the B4392 through the large village of Arddleen, along the A483(T) and the B4393, through the community's other large village of Llandrinio. Away from these large villages, further settlement is found in the small village of Sarnau and in the rural settlements of Burgedin, Deuddwr, Penrhos and Rhos Common. Both Arddleen and Llandrinio have seen a significant amount of development in recent years, and each large village has a good range of community services and facilities. Many of the communty’s boundaries follow watercourses: the river Severn in the south-east; and the river Vyrnwy and its tributary the Sarn Wen brook in the north, and the Montgomery canal in the west. The key settlement of Four Crosses in the neighbouring community of Llandysilio abuts the community boundary at the Sarn Wen brook, and is separated by that brook from the continuation of settlement that leads through the rural settlement of Rhos Common into the large village of Llandrinio. 2. The community has a population of 1,137, an electorate of 1,115 (2005) and a council of 11 members. The community is warded: Arddleen with 652 electors and six councillors; Llandrinio with 463 and five.
