ALL SAINTS BENHILTON NEWSLETTER

December 20, 2018

Welcom e to our last Newsletter of 2018! Over the last few weeks we have been busy with numerous festivities from the Christmas Fair to the school Nativities.

ASBSA led by Mrs Buchannan and an amazing team of parents hosted a successful Christmas Fair. It was a day filled with fun, laughter and a lot of festive cheer. Thank you to everyone involved from the ASBSA team to those of you who attended and helped to raise a total of £3471.24; it is really appreciated.

Once again the children have really surpassed themselves this year with their performances in the Christmas productions. The EYFS children were superb in their Nativity play, ‘Knitting Mary’, with all of the children knowing their lines; when to play their instruments as well as singing so beautifully. Well done everyone!

The Key Stage 1 performance of ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ was truly amazing. The children were so confident and all sang with such enthusiasm – their enjoyment was contagious. I was also impressed with the acting and with how

beautifully the children narrated the story. Excellent effort by all!

Our school choir and instrumentalists have visited Belsize Court and Orchard House Care Homes providing outstanding Christmas entertainment to the elderly residents. In addition to this, the choir also sang carols at Morrison’s in Sutton and helped to raise a significant amount of money for Save the Children. I am so proud of our talented children going out into the local community as model ambassadors of our ethos and vision.

The school festivities will be completed on Friday morning at 9:15 am when KS 2 host their Christmas Service in All Saints Benhilton Church.

I would like, on behalf of all of the staff and governors, to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and to thank

you for being part of our All Saints’ Benhilton family.

I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 7th January.

Mrs Justine Whelan-Cox

PARKING

As the school has grown so has the number of cars being used to drop the children off. This has resulted with increased congestion along All Saints Attendance

Rd. Please park considerately keeping in mind that this is a residential road. Our current attendance figure for w/c 3rd December is: 95.4% Also, for the safety of our children and other pedestrians please adhere to the road markings. Our target attendance figure is 96.4%

Moon Zoom!

Oak and Holly classes have enjoyed learning about Space this half term. Their journey began with a visit from the Education Group who brought in a Space Dome for the children to explore. Once inside the Dome they were treated to a projection of planets, stars and galaxies with a detailed commentary from our visitor. Following this experience the children have produced some amazing writing, paintings and models. They celebrated the end of their learning journey with a space dress up day and a performance of the song ‘Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon.’

Year 3 had a very chocotastic time when The Chocolate Museum visited. They tasted different chocolate from around the world and learnt about its origins. They had a very sticky time making their own chocolate treats, but they turned out beautifully and tasted de licious!

Remembrance Day As a whole school we observed Remembrance Day. All classes had a reflection time where they thought about why we have poppies and its significance. Every child then used their creative skills to make a poppy and they all looked unique. The poppies were then put together to form a memorial outside the school for the whole community to admire. I think you will agree that while the rain held off, they looked beautiful and spectacular.

On Monday 3rd December, Springs Dance Company came to our school to improvise the Nativity Story through dance. We expressed our emotions through the actions and movements that we were doing. Both Year 5 and 6 classes experienced doing this and just like us they enjoyed it and had so much fun. During the dance workshop, we read a story and acted out different parts of the Nativity story from the Bible. After lots of practising we performed it to the school which was a huge success!

Skye & Amelie (Cedar Class)

Advent Group enjoyed creating a Crib Scene and acting out the Nativity Story. They also considered the importance of the Star in the Nativity Story and wrote their own meaning of Christmas on a star.

Next week, they are looking forward to making some yummy star biscuits and prayer stars.

Please come to the School Entrance to see Advent Group’s beautiful Crib Scene.

Cross Country On Wednesday 17th October, pupils from years 4, 5 & 6 competed in Sutton Schools Cross Country meeting at Northey Avenue playing fields. It was a wet and windy day, typical weather for cross country! Needless to say, the children who took part ended up very muddy as well as very proud of themselves as they ran a mile over woodlands and muddy terrain. We had a variety of placements, our yr 5 girls as a team in particular accrued a fabulously low score (which is the aim of the game)! As did Charlie Fear who came in under 10th place and so was chosen to represent Sutton at the regional Cross-Country meeting. Well done Charlie and all who took part – I am very proud of you all to run that distance in the rain!

Greenshaw Festival Yr2 Gymnastics Festival on Tuesday 20th November 2018

A fabulous time was had by all 16 of our yr 2 children who participated in the festival. Led by the sports leaders, the children enjoyed creating gymnastic travels and balances. They finished off with a display at the end of the session.

A big thank you to Greenshaw staff for organising and running this event.

Sportshall Athletics

On 28th November 2018, All Saints Benhilton competed in one of three indoor athletic heats organised by the Sutton School Sports Partnership. Out heat was held at Wallington High School for Girls. Supported by Wallington Girls’ Sports leaders, the event ran very smoothly offering our Year 6 pupils the opportunity to compete against pupils Cheering on our team! from other schools in the Borough in a variety of track and field events. Each pupil was able to enter a maximum of 2 track and 2 field events such as multiple lap relays, obstacle relays, long jump (standing and triple), vertical jump, speed bounce, chest push throw and javelin throw. We all showed excellent sporting behaviour and thoroughly enjoyed the busy/loud, active morning!
