Barn talkback features original Grey Gardens cast member JERRY TORRE, THE “MARBLE FAUN” OF “GREY GARDENS” VISITS THE BARN PLAYERS PRODUCTION, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH (Mission, KS). On the evening of Saturday, September 30th, The Barn Players will be welcoming Jerry Torre, an actual cast member from the Grey Gardens documentary. Audience members may stay to participate in a post-show talkback with Mr. Torre, whose memory is also reimagined as a character in the award- winning musical. Grey Gardens is based on the true life story of Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, the aunt and cousin (respectively) of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. This hilarious and heartbreaking musical follows them on their 30-year journey from high society to faded outcasts living in a crumbling Long Island mansion. Jerry Torre was nicknamed ‘The Marble Faun’ by Little Edie Beale when he was a teenager working on the Grey Gardens estate. Gaining recognition from the Maysles brothers’ famous documentary about the Beales, he has been studying the art of stone carving these many years since. His sculptural work has been seen in many galleries of note in New York City. His professional career has also included work with puppeteer Wayland Flowers and the royal family of Saudi Arabia. As well, he is the subject of the 2011 documentary film “The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens.” His remarkable life story will also soon be shared in a forthcoming book. In December, 2014 Grey Gardensaward winning documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles had this to say about Jerry, “…It has truly been an astonishing life he has lived. All those years ago, I remember Edie telling us, in one of her more candid moments, that Jerry “is quite an extraordinary character.” Finally, with this book, the world will see how right she was.” Don’t miss this opportunity to see, hear, and meet with the man who actually participated in the Beale family’s fascinating story at Grey Gardens. WHAT, WHEN & WHERE: “Grey Gardens” was adapted to the stage by Scott Frankel (music); Michael Korie (lyrics); and Doug Wright (book). The Barn Players presentation is being directed by Artistic Director Eric Magnus, with musical direction by Michelle McIntire. The show runs Friday, September 15th through Sunday, October 1st, 2017. Among these are the iconoclastic artist Marcel Duchamp in Interrogating the Nude; the Marquis de Sade in Quills; Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, an East Berlin transvestite who survived persecution by both the Nazi and Communist regimes, in the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize- winning I Am My Own Wife; and "Big Edie" and "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale, two eccentric American aristocrats who ended up living in squalor, sharing a once-elegant mansion, in the musical Grey Gardens, based on the cult classic documentary film of the same name.
