After his discharge, he was granted passage through the Choctaw and Creek Nations to Pensacola. At Pensacola, he was a successful cattle rancher. He opened a market on Plaza Ferdinand in 1816. With the transfer of Florida to the United States, he was appointed Justice of the Peace and Quarter Master General for the Florida Militia. Manuel married Marie Louise Bonifay, daughter of Joseph Bonifay and Marianna Pingron, in Jul 1796. Marie was born in 1780,2 died in 18601 at age 80, and was buried in 1860 in Pensacola, Escambia, Florida.1 General Notes: Marie Louise Bonifay was not born on Martinique as noted on the tombstone plaque. In the 1850 census in Pensacola she is 70, born Alabama. That puts her birth about 1780, but not in Martinique.
