Volkswagen Försvarade Dakar-Titeln Med Trippelseger 2010-01-17 21:35 CET Volkswagen försvarade Dakar-titeln med trippelseger För andra året i rad blev det Volkswagen som gick segrande ur det legendariska Dakar-rallyt, när målflaggan föll i Buenos Aires under lördagen. Detta var märkets tredje titel sedan 1980. I den vinnande TDI-drivna Race Touaregen satt Carlos Sainz och hans kartläsare Lucas Cruz, båda från Spanien. Det blev Volkswagen även på platserna två och tre. Sainz/Cruz´ segermarginal var bara 2 minuter och 12 sekunder till teamkamraterna Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Quatar/Tyskland). På tredje plats kom Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/Sydafrika). Förra årets vinnare Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (Sydafrika/Tyskland) slutade på en sjundeplats. - Jag är oerhört stolt över vårt team. Det är anmärkningsvärt vad förarna, kartläsarna och hela teamet lyckats uppnå under varje enskild dag av Dakar- rallyt. Med denna trippelseger har Volkswagen Motorsport till och med överträffat sina egna tuffa målsättningar, säger Francisco Javier Garcia Sainz, medlem i Volkswagen AG:s ledningsgrupp och ansvarig för inköp. - Det är nu tre veckor sedan som ett mycket motiverat Volkswagen-team kom till Sydamerika med målet att försvara Dakar-titeln från förra året. Med denna trippelseger har vi skrivit historia. Vi är inte bara obesegrade i Sydamerika – vi är också den enda biltillverkaren som vunnit världens tuffaste rally med dieselteknologi, säger Kris Nissen, chef för Volkswagen Motorsport. Redan 2009 visade TDI-teknologin sin potential i Argentina och Chile. Utöver dieselmotorernas effektivitet var Race Touaregernas tillförlitlighet nyckeln till 2010 års Dakar-seger. Bilarna tog hem sju av 14 möjliga etappsegrar och har haft ledningen under totalt elva dagar av rallyt, som startade den 1 januari i Buenos Aires. Så här kommenterar Carlos Sainz själv sin framgång: - Genom segern i Dakar har jag uppfyllt en dröm. En enorm börda har fallit från mina axlar, särskilt eftersom fighten för seger var extremt hård både fysiskt och mentalt. Jag är oerhört glad över att ha uppnått det här målet efter att ha varit så nära seger vid flera tillfällen tidigare. Allting flöt på helt perfekt för mig. Min kartläsare Lucas Cruz gjorde ett fantastiskt jobb och rent tekniskt gick Race Touaregen som en klocka och hela Volkswagen-teamet jobbade oförtröttat för segern. Jag är enormt tacksam.     Dakar Rally, Saudi Arabia, MINI JCW Buggy, Carlos Sainz 2020-01-18 17:15 CET Dakar Rally 2020 – Carlos Sainz wins the Dakar for the third time and presents MINI with its fifth overall victory Munich. Carlos Sainz (ESP) and his co-driver Lucas Cruz (ESP) have won the Rally Dakar for the third time, having previously triumphed in 2010 and 2018. In doing so, they presented MINI with its fifth overall victory at the iconic endurance rally. For MINI and MINI Motorsport partner X-raid, this was the first success since their winning run together, which lasted from 2012 to 2015. The Spanish pair, in the MINI John Cooper Works Buggy, finished 6:21 minutes ahead of last year’s winner Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) after roughly 7,500 kilometres through Saudi Arabia, which was hosting the Dakar for the first time. Dakar record winner Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA) and his co-driver Paulo Fiuza (POR) finished third, 9:58 minutes behind Sainz and Cruz, to round off an impressive performance from the two MINI JCW Buggies. The two MINI JCW Buggy crews each won four stages, while MINI vehicles went fastest on a total of nine of the twelve days. Vaidotas Zala (LTU) / Saulius Jurgelenas (LTU), in a MINI JCW Rally, won the very first Dakar stage on Arabian soil on the opening day. Seven of the nine MINI crews that started the rally reached the finish in Al- Quiddia (KSA), four of them in the top ten. Orlando Terranova (ARG) and Bernardo ‘Ronnie’ Graue (ARG) finished in the top three on three days on their way to sixth place overall in the four-wheel drive MINI JCW Rally.

Finishing 6th in today’s stage ensured that Roma and Haro were successful and the Spanish duo did indeed secure a well-deserved second-place overall at Dakar 2019. Jakub ‘Kuba’ Przygonski (POL) and co-driver Tom Colsoul (BEL) kept up their consistent pace to finish today’s stage in fifth. After ten days and approximately 5,000 km of racing, 3,000 km of which were off-road Special Stage sections, Przygonski and Colsoul secured fourth place overall in a MINI John Cooper Works Rally.     2010-01-07 13:26 CET Volkswagen tar ledningen i Dakar-rallyt Volkswagen och Carlos Sainz har tagit ledningen efter den hittills tuffaste specialsträckan av årets Dakar-rally. Sainz och hans kartläsare Lucas Cruz leder det klassiska rallyt med 4 minuter och 37 sekunder. Själva sträckan vanns av Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford, Volkswagen. Utöver Carlos Sainz totalledning går det även bra för de övriga Race Touareg- bilarna, som nu har en tredubbel ledning i rallyt. Under den 483 kilometer långa sträckan från Copiapó och Antofagasta, som var mycket tuff med bland annat höjder på 3000 meter, lyckades Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford allra bäst. De vann sträckan tack vare en kombination av snabb och varsam körning. De klarade sig till exempel helt från punkteringar – något som det fanns stor risk för i den steniga terrängen. - Det här var en lång och en mycket mycket bra dag för Volkswagen. Alla förare och kartläsare har gjort ett superjobb. Trots våra framgångar på sträckan måste vi nu behålla vårt lugn och vår koncentration eftersom hela Dakar måste besegras. Vi har fortfarande mer än 3000 kilometer i tuff terräng att klara av, säger Kris Nissen, chef för Volkswagen Motorsport. Rallyts totalledare Carlos Sainz kommenterar sin framgång så här: - En extremt tuff och lång dag där nästan ingenting gick snett. Min Race Touareg gick som en klocka. Tyvärr skadade vi vårt högra bakdäck på en sten cirka 100 kilometer före målet. Det fanns en stor risk för att just sådant skulle hända idag.
