The meeting focused on western and northern economic competitiveness, internal and international trade and healthcare. Saskatchewan’s objectives were to:

• set the stage for a productive Council of the Federation (COF) summer meeting in Saskatoon, July 9-11, which Premier Moe chaired;

• highlight concerns with federal policies like the carbon tax, Bill C-69 and the Clean Fuel Standard, and emphasize the need to get Canadian energy to market;

• call on the federal government to pursue all options to resolve trade disputes and show provincial-territorial (PT) leadership on internal trade;

• find common ground on key issues in relation to the federal government, including federal health transfers and intergovernmental principles; and,

• strengthen western relationships.

Travel Activity:

Western Premiers discussed matters of mutual interest including responsible resource development, climate policy, federal-provincial-territorial relations, fiscal transfers, internal trade, international trade, the arctic, mental health and addictions and disaster mitigation.
