Regarding dethroned princely Houses and their legal rights Reference is made to the decision of the United Court of Bari of the 1st April 1952 in the case of the prosecutor vs. Umberto Zambrini and to the decision of the Tribunal of Pistoia of the 5th June 1964 in the case of the appeal against the penal judgment given against Francesco Mario Paternò Castello having found Prince Francesco Mario Paternò Castello di Carcaci, in his capacity as the last representative of a sovereign dynasty (the Royal House of Aragon), entitled to confer titles of nobility (the Court of Bari), respectively being the heir to the House of Paternò Castello Guttadauro di Emmanuel and legitimate holder of the same family’s rights, including the power of ius honorum which has been preserved by family tradition and which cannot disappear through dethronement (Pistoia). Further reference is made to the decision of the Ordinary Tribunal of Ragusa of the 9th May 2003, in session as an international court of arbitration, in the case between the Higher Institute of Nobiliary Law vs. Francesco Nicola Roberto Paternò Castello di Carcaci. According to the findings of the court of arbitration the following rights belong to Francesco Nicola Roberto Paternò Castello di Carcaci, in his capacity as consanguineous and descendant in a collateral line of the last sovereign of the Royal House of Aragon as his legitimate successor and as pretender to the throne: a) the quality of Royal Highness and Royal Prince of the Royal House of Aragon, Majorca and Sicily; b) the right to designate

ACTA UNIVERSITATIS UPSALIENSIS Studia Historica Upsaliensia 210 Utgivna av Historiska institutionen vid Uppsala universitet genom Torkel Jansson, Jan Lindegren och Maria Ågren 1 2 David Ludvigsson The Historian-Filmmaker’s Dilemma Historical Documentaries in Sweden in the Era of Häger and Villius 3 Dissertation in History for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy presented at Uppsala University in 2003 ABSTRACT Ludvigsson, David, 2003: The Historian-Filmmaker’s Dilemma. Historical Documentaries in Sweden in the Era of Häger and Villius. Written in English. Acta Universitatis Upsalien- sis. Studia Historica Upsaliensia 210. (411 pages). Uppsala 2003. ISSN 0081-6531. ISBN 91-554-5782-7. This dissertation investigates how history is used in historical documentary films, and ar- gues that the maker of such films constantly negotiates between cognitive, moral, and aes- thetic demands. In support of this contention a number of historical documentaries by Swedish historian-filmmakers Olle Häger and Hans Villius are discussed. Other historical documentaries supply additional examples. The analyses take into account both the produc- tion process and the representations themselves. The history culture and the social field of history production together form the conceptual framework for the study, and one of the aims is to analyse the role of professional historians in public life. The analyses show that different considerations compete and work together in the case of all documentaries, and figure at all stages of pre-production, production, and post-produc- tion. But different considerations have particular inuence at different stages in the produc- tion process and thus they are more or less important depending on where in the process the producer puts his emphasis on them.

  • STIG LINDBERG May 29, 2021 – Jan
STIG LINDBERG May 29, 2021 – Jan. 30, 2022 INTRODUCTION On a beautiful spring day in the mid-1930s, the teenager Stig Lindberg bicycled straight into a birch tree. This incident would be of great significance to the man who would later become one of Sweden’s most important designers. The birch was there of course because he was born and raised in Umeå – the city of birches. The reason for his accident was that he caught sight of his future wife Gunnel Jonsson for the first time on the other side of the street. The birch tree, Gunnel and Umeå would all play a major role in the interior design of the Swedish home. Millesgården Museum proudly presents the life and works of the designer and artist Stig Lindberg. With his design and illustrations, he has provided Sweden with objects for everyday use and design since the 1940s. His enormous productivity, desire to experiment and an ability to be a functionalist without compromising his imagination has made him one of our most beloved designers. Lindberg’s main accomplishment was as art director at the Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory for two periods between 1937 and 1980. Between these two periods, Lindberg held a position as senior lecturer of ceramics at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design, where he was appointed a professor in 1970. His broad production ranges from tableware to faience and stoneware, public art, visual art and sculptures to light bulbs, sanitary ware and television sets. Lindberg found scope for his playfulness and imagination, not least, in his children’s book illustrations.

  • Another Swede in Hollywood
Another Swede in Hollywood by Harry H. Anderson Many Swedish Americans are familiar with Swedes who have become famous for their starring performances in Hollywood motion pictures, including Greta Garbo (who at one time had close connections to Milwaukee), Ingrid Bergman, and for a somewhat older generation, Warner Oland, who played the title role in many early Charlie Chan features in the 1930’s. Much less well known is the fact that a member of the Swedish royal family also had a brief Hollywood career in the 1930’s, not as an actor, but as what was called a “technical advisor” in at least one popular film of this period. In the David O. Selznick 1937 production of “The Prisoner of Zenda” starring Ronald Colman and Madeleine Carroll, the name of Prince Sigvard Bernadotte appeared in the screen credits (along with a Colonel Ivar Enhörning, possibly another Swede) as a “Technical Advisor” for several spectacular royalty scenes in this black and white film. Sigvard Bernadotte (b. 1907) was a grandson of the Swedish king Gustaf VI Adolph (1887-1973) and an uncle of Carl XVI Gustaf (b. 1946), the present Swedish monarch. The scenes in “Zenda” that Prince Sigvard probably provided guidance for included the dramatic coronation of King Rudolph at an elegantly staged cathedral ceremony and for a later coronation, all in which Colman and Carroll are the featured personalities. Undoubtedly Prince Sigvard had witnessed some comparable incidents at European courts during his younger years (without, of course, the political intrigue and adventures that highlighted this film). When “The Prisoner of Zenda” was reproduced in Technicolor in 1952, Stewart Granger played the dual role of the imprisoned king and his look-alike cousin Rudolph Rassendyll.

At that time, Tianjin was one of the few open cities in China. In the attempts to attract foreign investors, the city’s sub- stantial environmental challenges proved to be critical obstacles. The reason IVL got the honour to take on this environmental challenge in Tianjin was that Sweden had impressed the Chinese by having instigating environmental authorities, and that IVL was considered to be in the frontline when it comes to applied environmental research. This is still true today. The Tianjin story is a great example of our ability and willingness to take on complex international environmental challenges. What can we do for you? Tianjin skyline.
