March 13, 2012 Clint attended the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Camp in 1987 and learned about the Jazz Jubilee. His first appearance there was in 1988, playing banjo and leading his band, Greasy Kid Stuff. Four months before their first festival appearance, Clint had to replace his trumpet player, so he taught himself TNT concerts: the cornet. Clint has performed at our festival every year since Jazz-n-Pizza jam sessions 1988 (working 15 years as band leader; 6 years as a sideman). Clint Baker’s New Orleans Jazz Band (1990–2000), which TNT, along with other young musicians who are. appeared at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in welcome to join in. 1992, and the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1999. Clint Baker is one of the few musicians to lead a traditional jazz band at this world renowned festival, joining the ranks of Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden. The band toured festivals in the US and Canada extensively and was voted one of the top five Favorite New (Emerging) Jazz Bands in the 1998 Mississippi Rag Trad Jazz and Ragtime Poll. (Clint was voted one of the top three Favorite New Emerging Musicians.) In late 1990, the band began performing on Friday nights at Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park, CA. Now called the Cafe Bor- rone All-Stars, the band still plays there. Bob Helm, clarinet- ist with Lu Watters, and Turk Murphy, worked regularly with the band. Trumpeter Leon Oakley, who also worked with Turk Murphy, has played there regularly for the past 9 years. Clint also worked as a freelance musician, playing drums on a tour of England, The Netherlands, and Germany with Big Bill Bissonnette’s International Jazz Band with “Tuba Fats” Lacen, and George Probert on reeds. He also played the Kobe Jazz Street Festival in Japan, the Osaka Jazz Street Festival, the Edinburgh STJS thanks our new and renewing Festival in Scotland, and more.
