Sponsorship is a way of insuring that we will be able to continue to bring top quality bands to our festival. Sponsorship levels begin at $500.00. Benefits associated with the various levels of sponsorship range from All Events badges through Patron badges and hotel rooms at the event. The “Friends of Note” program was established at the request of our badge purchasers who wanted to add a donation to their badge purchase orders. We thank them with a souvenir pin. Our youth programs continue to help educate and encourage young musicians to learn, appreciate and perform music. We hold a youth clinic as well as showcase youth band sets during the festival. Donations help to further these endeavors as well as providing funds to send students to jazz camps and bring established musicians into their schools. Donations of used instruments, which we give to the schools, allow student musicians to have quality instruments on which to learn. Long term donations in the form of bequests or endowments will help insure these programs. Please consider supporting us in this manner and help keep our exciting music alive. PAGES 18-23 Information on sponsorship or donations is available 2020 Schedule of Bands, at the festival information desk or by calling our Locations and Times hotline (888-349-6879) after the festival.

One of our main goals is to support the education of young musicians in our community. This can be through helping students to attend summer camps or take music lessons, the provision of instruments or necessary equipment, clinicians, the purchase of music, or any other way in which we can support music education for the purpose of students learning the art of Dixieland music.

his year Dixieland Monterey assisted Pacific Grove High School with their jazz band program which is running strong thanks to Tvolunteer music teacher Theresa Hruby. There are two jazz groups: The Hot Jazz Society and the Jazz in the Grove Big Band. They both meet after school each week. This year you will get to hear the Hot Jazz Society in the Bonsai Room on Saturday evening at 7:30 pm. A later concert on April 22 will feature both groups. Free and open to the public, it will be held at 7:00 pm in the Student Union at Pacific Grove High School. We hope to see you there. JAZZ BASH YOUTH CLINIC Designed to introduce young players to the early jazz styles through ensemble and solo work, it is open to all school age student musicians who wish to attend. This year the first of the two hour clinic will be lead by Howard Myiata with the assistance of Clint INSTRUMENT RESCUE PROJECT Baker, Jacob Zimmerman, Marc Caparone, Chris Over the years we have encouraged the donation Calabrese, Katie Cavera and Steve Pikal. The second of instruments that have been “lovingly stored” hour will feature Blue Street Jazz Band. Be sure to in forgotten places. We then stop in and watch as the students build confidence donate them to the music and musicianship. department of a school in need. These additional instruments in the schools help keep our kind of music alive and accessible. RAFFLE With the proceeds from last year’s raffle, Pacific Grove High School was able to purchase more music and most of a new sound system which included microphones, stands and cables. This year they hope to complete the set with a new mixer. They also purchased new outfits for the Hot Jazz group. Watch for the students selling raffle tickets in the DeAnza Lobby and throughout the Festival venues.

SCHOLARSHIPS Last year Dixieland Monterey was able to provide funds for a guitar teacher to help students learn how to play, read, and improvise on the guitar. This year we hope to start a few students on the banjo. This summer we anticipate holding a short three or four day camp featuring local Dixieland specialist teachers. Ideally, this camp will be open to all local school students in order to expose more young musicians to traditional jazz. 37 Sponsors & Patrons Sponsors Dixieland Monterey is grateful for all the support provided LOUIS ARMSTRONG ($10,000 AND UP) each and every year, allowing us to bring our fans great music ELLA FITZGERALD ($7,500 TO $9,999) and to continue to fulfill our dedication to the preservation TURK MURPHY ($5,000 TO $7,499) of the music of the Jazz Age, one of the most creative periods Sunshine Bishop { Sierra Seven, total sponsorship } in the history of American music. Some of the volunteers listed below have been with us from our very first year. Others first attended the festival as spectators and badge holders — and then came forward to volunteer their help for the weekend. We acknowledge their generosity, dedication, and hard work.
