There is also a vendor showcase to meet delegates during registration, lunch and an afternoon break. The Wokefield Estate event presents an opportunity to get in front of the salesforces in order to ensure they are aware of SCC’s vendor products and services to enable them to engage customers and deliver sales opportunities. The event will take place at Wokefield Place located on the Wokefield Estate on Friday 29th November 2019. We look forward to welcoming you to the event, which hopes to be a success. Dress Code: For the daytime event please wear smart/casual attire – no ripped jeans or sports based footwear. For the evening event please dress to impress. It is not a black tie event this year. As a Socially Responsible business we would encourage you to car share, reducing the number of cars travelling to the venue. Car parking is free, park near Wokefield Place, see the parking areas on the map below. For those that are staying overnight if you do not want to leave your luggage in your cars then please take it to Wokefield Place with you and Wokefield Park staff will store the luggage for you until check in. For the x2 dinner guests you will be required to sign a registration card on arrival, this means that after the last vendor session has ended at the end of the day you will be able to go to the Wokefield Place reception and pick up your keys as the registration card will mean they have already checked you in. Vendor training sessions will commence at 10.15am so please ensure you have set up your allocated room beforehand. Lunch will be at 12.30. Your last session will need to end promptly at 16.30pm. The VIP Christmas Party will commence at 19.00pm in the Wokefield Suite and will finish around 01.00am including food, drinks and entertainment. Please note: Wokefield Estate is a well-known conference centre to Thames Valley Police who are famous for parking a squad car (equipped with breathalysers) outside the gates on Saturday mornings. Please make absolutely sure before you start your journey home that you are not driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. SCC accepts no responsibility should you decide to do so. After approx. 2.5 miles and a sharp right hand bend over a railway bridge, the entrance to Wokefield Estate can be seen on the right hand side. Exit the M3 at junction 5. Follow signs for Hook and Reading onto the A30. At next roundabout take B3349 for Reading. Continue, following signs for Reading. Join A33. At the traffic lights before M4 turn left to Burghfield & Mortimer. Proceed as directed from the M4 above. By train: Reading Station is 7 miles from Wokefield Estate. There is a taxi rank at Reading Station. Trains from Reading connect with Mortimer Station (5 minutes by car from Wokefield Estate) but there is no taxi rank, so call main reception on 0871 222 4828. Deliveries: For any items you need to deliver in advance to Wokefield Park please ensure that all items are clearly labelled using the delivery form template which you have been sent a copy of. What time do I need to arrive at the venue for set up? Anytime from 8.00am 2. What is my room/allocation of space? All vendors have been allocated syndicate rooms, please refer to the table within this briefing pack to find out the name and SCC sales manager assigned to you. 3. What equipment is supplied in the syndicate room? All rooms will have a projector or LED screen depending on the room but best to check with the venue directly. 4. Who are the other vendors at the event? Please refer to the table within this briefing pack. 5. Will food be provided at the event? There will be refreshments and lunch available for you at the venue. 6. Will you pay for any travel/accommodation costs? All travel needs are to be organised and paid for individually, this cannot be charged back to SCC. Accommodation will be available for the 2 people that are representing your company at the Christmas VIP party in the evening – should they require this please select during the registration process, you will not be charged for this. 7. What time will I need to start de-rigging? Straight after the last vendor session at 16.30pm 8. How many people can I have running my session? There is no maximum however please note that you are presenting to small intimate groups so we would recommend you limit the number you have in the room. 9. Is there anywhere to park?     Mortimer Heritage Trail Walk 2: Mortimer Common 3km (2.25 miles) This second of two moderate walks identifying interesting properties and places covers Mortimer Common, the newer part of the village, with homes being built mainly after 1880. Until then it had grown gorse and birch but not much else, the gravel soil being useless for agriculture. The Enclosure Acts from earlier that century had put the Common into private ownership. Housebuilding started slowly with existing ‘squatter’ cottages in Longmoor, Groves Corner and Summerlug being joined by a few more. West End House and Briar Lea House were the only sizeable properties by 1840. After land sales in 1870-71, house building started in earnest from about 1880 including in Windmill Road, Victoria Road and King Street (named after Mr King the baker), the population growing rapidly from the early 1900s. We start at the Community Centre car park, marked (1) on the red route on page 4, in the Fairground. The Fairground, is designated as an open space amenity. Today this is where travelling fairs and circuses come and village events are held. In the past, it has been used for gymkhanas, which have attracted Royal participants. Earlier still cattle and horse fairs were held there with animals being driven along Welshman’s Road allegedly from Wales but more likely from the railway sidings at Padworth. The Horse and Groom pub opposite would have been the oldest pub in the village had it remained in its original 17th century half-timbered building. The present pub was built adjacent, the original becoming a butcher’s shop.

Mortimer Village Partnership is delighted to announce the launch of our new logo which reflects the coming of age of the MVP, recognised by the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. MVP has now been existence for five years and this seems the right time to refresh our image. The new logo has been designed by Richard Crowther working with the MVP Committee and seeks to retain elements of the original logo, the winning design from a competition, reflecting still the familiar blue circle and taking the tree and people elements into a stylised graphic. It is hoped that the new logo, which now specifically shows “MVP”, as Mortimer Village Partnership has become known, will improve people's recognition of the many MVP activities and events throughout the year. The logo will be easier to reproduce and is scalable to create real impact when enlarged on posters and, unlike the current logo, it will benefit from not losing the key elements when reduced. We think the new strap line Enriching Village Life reflects the objectives of the MVP, not only in the activities directly run by MVP, but also through our support for the many clubs and organisations that contribute to vibrant village life.     Local Government Boundary Commission for England proposals for West Berkshire Council Proposed Burghfield & Mortimer Ward Introduction This response to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England proposals for the restructuring of the wards for West Berkshire Council is from both West Berkshire Council Members for the Burghfield Ward (Carol Jackson Doerge and Ian Morrin), one of the two Members for the Mortimer Ward (Graham Bridgman) and the single Member for the Sulhamstead Ward (Keith Chopping). All of us are members of the Conservative Group. These three wards are those that form an overlap with the Wokingham constituency (which remains unchanged in the final version of the Boundary Commission for England’s 2018 Review proposals): Burghfield (two members: Burghfield parish), Mortimer (two members: Beech Hill, Padworth, Stratfield Mortimer, Wokefield and Ufton Nervet parishes) and Sulhamstead (one member: Beenham, Englefield and Sulhamstead parishes). The proposals for changes to ward boundaries The final (revised) WBC submission to LGBCE was for a 42 member council including: a single member Mortimer Ward covering the Stratfield Mortimer parish alone, a two member Burghfield Ward comprised of the Beech Hill, Burghfield, Sulhamstead and Wokefield parishes, and a single member Aldermaston Ward comprised of the Aldermaston, Beenham, Brimpton, Padworth, Ufton Nervet and Wasing parishes.
