Giannini t’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Middleburg – espe- cially with the annual display of holiday signs along Washington and Federal Streets. These wooden Isigns pay tribute to the memory and legacy of the late Emily Sharp who shared her whimsical visions of a gift- filled sleigh, trumpeting angel, cook with plum pudding, Tiny Tim, Pooh Bear, toy engine, and Santa’s list of merchants, to name only a few. Over the years, Sharp’s Yuletide signs, which she designed specifically for the charming, old-fashioned theme of Christmas In Middleburg, have become inextricably woven into the unique tapestry of the local communi- ty’s history and traditions. The wooden signs first graced Middleburg in 1982 and grew rapidly from 20 originals to 26 all told. Today, they look as good as new, thanks to The Hill School’s Alumni As- sociation whose board decided unani- mously last January to refurbish and restore the holiday signs designed by their former art teacher. • 2018 SRGS General Information for Students and Parents
2019 Summer Residential Governor's Schools (SRGS) General Information for Students and Parents Welcome to the 2019 Summer Residential Governor's Schools application process. Any student who considers himself/herself eligible may complete an application. School divisions select the students they nominate for the state level application process. Please review the information carefully and speak with your school counselor or gifted education coordinator to ensure that you meet all division and state deadlines. Most of the deadlines established by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) are for school division submissions to the VDOE. School divisions typically set their deadlines several weeks or months prior to the VDOE deadline. All parts of the application are available at the Virginia Department of Education’s Website. The application process is a joint effort involving the student, his/her parent or legal guardian, the local school, the school division or the private school region, and the VDOE. This document contains general program information about the Summer Residential Governor's Schools. The application contains sections that the student must complete, and sections to be completed by teachers and the school counselor. Teachers and school counselors may access the forms they need from the same Web site noted above. This year each SRGS program has its own application. Please be sure you are completing the appropriate application form. Students applying to the Visual and Performing Arts program must be selected by their school division or private school to attend the statewide adjudication process in January. Each application has information sheets that you should give to the two teachers/adults whom you are asking to provide recommendations and to the guidance office for other data.

  • 2018 SRGS Guide for Public and Private School Administrators
2019 Summer Residential Governor's Schools (SRGS) A Guide for Public and Private School Administrators The 2019 Summer Residential Governor's School (SRGS) selection process is consistent with the mission of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to provide eligible students in the Commonwealth fair and equitable access to programs and services. The process continues to provide representation in the SRGS to students throughout the Commonwealth from public school divisions and accredited private schools. All guides, parent and student information, applications, and school nomination forms are available on the VDOE Governor’s School Programs Website. The administrative guide has been developed to assist counselors and others who are working with current sophomores or juniors who wish to apply for any of the Summer Residential Governor’s Schools. The guide outlines the specific process for the summer programs from prenomination through completion of the summer program. To assist schools and counselors through this process, the VDOE has established specific VDOE deadlines (Attachment A) and has recommended deadlines for divisions to use to facilitate submission of student information through the VDOE’s Single Sign-on Web System (SSWS). Public school divisions’ gifted education coordinators and private school regional coordinators act as the primary VDOE contacts for all information and submission of student nominees. Please refer to Attachment B for the names and contact information of the private school regional coordinators and a listing of private schools by region. In reviewing the VDOE deadlines, divisions and private school regional coordinators should establish their own deadlines for the submission of the various parts of the applications.
