1.0 COMMUNITY SUMMARY – MATTAGAMI FIRST NATION

The following summaries detail the Project-related interests and concerns raised by Mattagami First Nation during engagement activities within the period from April 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015.

1.1 April 1, 2013 to April 18, 2014

Mattagami First Nation is an Oji- community located on the northwest side of the Mattagami Lake, about 20 km northeast of Gogama. The community is accessible by road 5 km from Highway 144 and is 80 km from .1 The current registered population of this First Nation is 539 members.2

Mattagami First Nation was identified as a community potentially affected by the Energy East Pipeline Project (the Project) and has been receiving information and maps since April 2013.

In May 2013, the Executive Director of the Wabun verbally indicated to Energy East that Mattagami First Nation would like to be engaged through the Wabun Tribal Council.

Energy East continues to share material and information with the leadership of Mattagami First Nation, however, individual engagement activities with Mattagami First Nation are carried out through the Wabun Tribal Council collective of Mattagami First Nation, , , Brunswick House and Chapleau Ojibway First Nation.

In February 2014, Energy East sent a Communications and Engagement Funding Agreement (CEFA) offer letter to Mattagami First Nation. The CEFA is designed to provide funding to the First Nation to meaningfully participate in the engagement process.

1.2 April 19, 2014 to December 31, 2015

At this time, engagement with Mattagami First Nation is carried out through the Wabun Tribal Council collective approach. For details on engagement activities, and an engagement update for Mattagami First Nation, see the summary for Wabun Tribal Council at Appendix 10-106A.
