A-Ha to Return with New Album and Rio Spectacular for September 2015 and International Tour Dates for 2016
PRESS RELEASE A-HA TO RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM AND RIO SPECTACULAR FOR SEPTEMBER 2015 AND INTERNATIONAL TOUR DATES FOR 2016 Following on from the announcement that legendary Norwegian band a-ha are to reform to play the 30 th anniversary Rock in Rio music festival, the band are delighted to announce the release of a brand new studio album this autumn, with international tour dates to follow in 2016. The new album, Cast In Steel , will be the band’s tenth studio album, and the first new music by the group since the critical and commercial success of 2009’s Foot of the Mountain . Cast In Steel will be released on 4 th September 2015, three weeks before the band return to play the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil, and thirty years since their debut single, Take on Me , reached number one around the world. * * * The Album When a-ha played the Oslo Spektrum in December 2010 to close the ‘Ending on A High Note – Farewell Tour’, it felt a definitive full-stop on the band’s activities. As Morten Harket says, ‘it has been a genuine and real disbanding. There has been no a-ha in the sense of the word during that time.’ For Morten, Paul Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen, the five- year break has allowed them to explore a rich seam of various creative projects, both musical and artistic. The return came about in a simple, organic way, as Paul explains: ‘it started off very easy and low-key with Morten dropping by my studio at various occasions, and I would show him songs that I was working on. -

Norway's Efforts to Electrify Transportation
Rolling the snowball: Norway’s efforts to electrify transportation Nathan Lemphers Environmental Governance Lab Working Paper 2019-2 Rolling the snowball: Norway’s efforts to electrify transportation EGL Working Paper 2019-2 September 2019 Nathan Lemphers, Research Associate Environmental Governance Lab Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy University of Toronto [email protected] Norway’s policies to encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption have been highly successful. In 2017, 39 per cent of all new car sales in Norway were all-electric or hybrid, making it the world’s most advanced market for electric vehicles (IEA 2018). This high rate of EV ownership is the result of 30 years of EV policies, Norway’s particular political economy, and significant improvements in EV and battery technology. This paper argues that Norway’s sustained EV policy interventions are not only starting to decarbonize personal transportation but also spurring innovative electrification efforts in other sectors such as maritime transport and short- haul aviation. To explain this pattern of scaling, the paper employs Bernstein and Hoffmann’s (2018) framework on policy pathways towards decarbonization. It finds political causal mechanisms of capacity building and normalization helped create a welcoming domestic environment to realize early uptake and scaling of electric vehicles, and subsequently fostered secondary scaling in other modes of transportation. The initial scaling was facilitated by Norway’s unique political economy. Ironically, Norway’s climate leadership is, in part, because of its desire to sustain oil and gas development. This desire steered the emission mitigation focus towards sectors of the economy that are less contentious and lack opposing incumbents. -

From the Archives As PAS celebrates its 50th anniversary, here’s a look back at some of the ads that appeared in Percussive Notes during the 1960s and ’70s. The Drums Unlimited Percussion Publications catalog was the definitive reference source for percussion solos, ensembles and method books in the 1970s and ’80s. See-through drumsets were big in the early to mid-1970s, but see-through marching drums never quite caught on. One of the first ads to ever appear in Percus- sive Notes in 1968 was a four-page spread introducing Rogers Accu-sonic timpani. The pair also evaluate their own performance styles and preferences within the musical context of the band. 12 JOE COCUZZO Having worked professionally since the age of 19, Joe Co- cuzzo has an abundance of musical knowledge. His respect for and understanding of the drummer's position within the music has prepared him for affiliations with Buddy DeFranco, Gary McFarland, Don Ellis, Woody Herman and Tony Bennett. 20 ED GREENE Ed Greene has the distinction of being one of Los Angeles' hottest studio drummers. Greene explains what it's like to work in the studios while trying to keep your personal musical goals alive, and what the responsibilities of a studio musician entail. Glass Onion Tapestry
June 2014 Press Release Dovecot Studios and Magne Furuholmen collaborate to create Glass Onion tapestry Following an introduction from Paul Stolper, Dovecot Studios are delighted to be working with Norwegian artist Magne Furuholmen on an exciting new collaboration in tapestry. Dovecot invited Furuholmen to the Studios in early 2013 to consider a tapestry project and following a series of conversations with Dovecot’s weaving team, he returned to the studios in late April 2014 with a selection of design ideas derived from a series of ten large format woodcut prints collectively known as Norwegian Wood. Furuholmen has created a new print titled Glass Onion, specifically as a design for the tapestry, using music as its main reference point. Dovecot are particularly thrilled by this project as Furuholmen’s holistic approach to his practice as an artist - continually assessing his modus operandi and experimenting with various media – will ensure that his involvement in the creation of Glass Onion will be rewarding for all those who are involved in the process. The Glass Onion tapestry will be woven at Dovecot under the supervision of Master Weaver Naomi Robertson. This process will begin in June 2014 and continue throughout the Edinburgh Art Festival to be completed before embarking on a tour in late September. Three of Furuholmen’s Glass Onion woodblock prints will be displayed as part of Dovecot’s summer exhibition Current Exchanges: Dovecot and the Australian Tapestry Workshop, and viewers will be able to watch the weavers work on the tapestry from the Balcony. A major exhibition of Magne Furuholmen’s work is scheduled at Dovecot for early 2015.
