We invite you to request prayer for people or situations that weigh heavily on your heart and mind at this time so that we can include them on a regular basis. Unless you ask otherwise, we will pray for them for two weeks from the time we receive your request. If you would like to ask for a prayer, you may telephone, email or write to the Vicar (see back cover; emails may also be sent via St Peter’s website), or you may prefer to leave the prayer on the board beside the door in church. Building Walls Humanity has been building walls for millennia; they give us physical security and protect us emotionally from heartbreak and disappointment. Modern life has many such walls that divide, separate, brand, tag, sort, rank and compartmentalize. Our society is littered with them. No matter how safe they might make us feel, they block us from each other and from God. At the heart of the gospel is the message of love, forgiveness and reconciliation, which calls us to live life in its fullest and to grow in relationship with one another and with God. There should be no racial, economic or political walls separating us, instead we must let Christ work ‘through us’ to remove these barriers. What is separating us from one another? Race, status, wealth, education, personality, tradition, politics, disagreements? Or perhaps simply time and willingness? In Christ it doesn’t matter who you are, in him we are supposed to be one family. It is reassuring that in these turbulent times God is unchanging and calling us to seek this unity, to break down these walls, and to embrace each other, once again, as brothers and sisters in Christ.
