The Club Alpino Accademico Italiano and the Club Alpino Italiano section of , in collaboration with the local group Rocciatori Val di Sea, invite you to participate in the “Val Grande in verticale” climbing and hiking meeting, which takes place on 8th and 9th September 2018 in the territory Val Grande di Lanzo (Italy-- Southern Graian , 60 km from Turin and 50 km from Caselle Torinese airport).

The meeting takes place on the granite walls of the Val Grande (examples : Bec di Rociruta, Bec di Mea, Rocca di Lities, Pareti del Biollè, Parete del Roncet, Campopietra and Giagiomik crags) and in particular in the Vallone di Sea (side valley of Val Grande).

Outline of mountaineering history: since the end of the 60s the first routes have been traced, in particular on the Bec di Mea, by important figures such as Gian Piero Motti and Gian Carlo Grassi who would later be the protagonists of the "Nuovo Mattino" in the nearby Valle Orco. The exploration of the Sea valley began instead in 1978 and it was above all thanks to G. C. Grassi and Isidoro Meneghin that about 250 routes were opened there. Today we can find routes for both traditional and aid climbing, or routes equipped with bolts in traditional 1980’s and 90’s style and finally new or revised routes thanks to a recent development project which has not however violated the local environment or ethics. Climbing is of “granitic” type and is very varied depending on the sectors: it goes from large slabs to walls and cracks. The routes also reach 10 pitches and some of them have never been repeated or even free climbed. The access to the walls in Sea valley range from 40’ to about 1h 20'. Even though the altitude is not particularly high (about 1700m) the environment is purely alpine. All the routes of Sea require a certain mountaineering experience and the use of “trad protections”, in some cases even pitons. On the other hand, other walls of Val Grande are integrally protected with bolts.

Note: the climbing and hiking activity during the event are free. Each participant must be able to independently deal with the chosen itineraries, under their own full responsibility. Each participant must be autonomous from a technical point of view and equipped with their own mountaineering material, which must be suitable for the chosen itineraries.
