We are happy to announce that Fr. Andres Alberto Serna will be joining the parish staff of Christ the King as Parochial Vicar and hospital ministry at Monmouth Medical Center effective July 1st, 2017. Rev. Serna, was born in Medellin, Colombia & is currently a Parochial Vicar at St. Barnabas Parish, Bayville. Keep him in your prayers along with all priests, our newly ordained priests, and all vocations.
Jesus Gives Himself to Us: He Offers His Real Body and Blood
The teaching of the Real Presence asserts that in the Holy Eucharist Jesus is literally and wholly pre- sent—body and blood, soul and divinity—under the appearance of bread and wine. We support this great truth in the Bible where it is directly declared in 1 Cor. 10:16–17, 11:23–29, and most forcefully in John 6:32 –71, as well as in other Scripture passages. From the very beginning Christianity has be- lieved in the real presence; it is not a representation, nor a sign, but for us it is the same Jesus in a sacra- mental way, his real body to eat, and real blood to drink which will give us eternal life. We can find many testimonies from the very early Church; for ex- ample in the year 110 (A.D), Saint Ignatius of Antioch affirmed, “I have no taste for corruptible food nor for the pleasures of this life. I desire the bread of God, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ, who was of the seed of David; and for drink I desire his blood, which is love incorruptible." Today we celebrate our faith in the real pres- ence of the Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist, and only by participating in this banquet will we have life in Him. Today in this divine celebration Jesus is giv- ing himself to us.
