  • Tour Lisboa / 6 Hours
Tour Lisboa / 6 hours We can pick up the clients in our offices or at the hotel or at the apartment in Cascais área. We start to stop at the factory of the Pastel de Belém. The Pastel de Belém is one of the most famous sweets of Portugal, also known as custard tart. We continue our tour to the Monastery of Jerónimos. Manueline style monastery, monumental testimony to the wealth of the Portuguese discoveries. Visit to the tomb of Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camoes. The first discovered the maritim way to India and the second was a great famous poet author of the Lusíadas. The visit of the Tower of Belém and the Discoveries Monument is the next step of the tour. The Tower of Belém was built strategically on the north bank of the Tagus river, between 1514 and 1520, for the defense of the Lisbon bar and is one of the architecture jewels of the reign of the King Manuel I. The Discoveries Monument was originally erected in 1941 for the exhibition of the Portuguese world. Pass under the bridge 25th of April and overlooking the Christ the King. The Shrine of Christ the King is one of the symbols of Lisbon. The idea of its construction began in September 1934 after Cardinal Cerejeira, Patriarch of Lisbon visit the monument erected to Christ at the top of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Next step, the Castle of St. George, considered the most emblematic monument of Lisbon, the Castle of São Jorge is an important testimony of odd moments in the history of Lisbon and Portugal.

  • The Holy See
The Holy See APOSTOLIC JOURNEY OF POPE BENEDICT XVI TO PORTUGAL ON THE OCCASION OF THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BEATIFICATION OF JACINTA AND FRANCISCO, YOUNG SHEPHERDS OF FÁTIMA COMMEMORATIVE MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI ON THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE SHRINE OF CHRIST THE KING IN ALMADA Dear Brothers and Sisters, At this moment, I look across to the other bank of the Tagus, towards the imposing statue of Christ the King, as we approach the end of the celebrations of its fiftieth anniversary. While it has not been possible to visit the shrine, as Bishop Gilberto of Setúbal would have wished – I take the opportunity from here to point out to the younger generation the example of hope in God and fidelity to their vow that the Bishops and faithful Christians of that time left us in this sculpture, a sign of their love and gratitude for the preservation of peace in Portugal. The image of Christ extends his arms over the whole of Portugal, as if to remind it of the Cross on which Jesus obtained the peace of the world and showed himself to be both King and servant, since he is the true Saviour of mankind. Let this shrine become ever more a place in which every member of the faithful can assess how deeply rooted the values of the Kingdom of Christ are in his life of baptismal consecration, for the building up of love, justice and peace through engagement in society in favour of the poor and oppressed, so as to focus the spirituality of Christian communities upon Christ, the Lord and Judge of history.

TECHNICAL TRANSACTIONS 4/2018 ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING DOI: 10.4467/2353737XCT.18.054.8366 SUBMISSION OF THE FINAL VERSION: 28/3/2018 Magdalena Rzeszotarska-Pałka ([email protected]) Department of Landscape Design, Faculty of Environmental Management and Agriculture, West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin Heavens above – a statue of Christ in the landscape Ponad niebiosa – pomnik Chrystusa w krajobrazie Abstract The monuments of Christ erected from 1920s onwards in many places throughout the world are a specific group of dominants associated with sacrum. Their effect on the perception of the landscape is very strong because of the artistic form and, above all, the symbolic dimension they have. The aim of the work is to demonstrate that land development projects around sacred landscape dominants in the form of statues of Christ should be subject to careful consideration, both in terms of functionality and composition. The adjustment of the environment to the scale and rank of the object - so as to emphasise its special role in the landscape, but also the symbolism associated with the sphere of sacrum - plays a crucial role in this case. Comparative analyses were made for ten highest statues of Christ in the world. The research was also supplemented with a presentation of the concept of land development around the statue of Christ in Świebodzin. Keywords: landscape dominants, sacrum in the landscape, statue of Christ Streszczenie Pomniki Chrystusa wznoszone od lat 20.
