First Holy Communion - May 1, 2021 by Sandy Hill

Christ the King had a beautiful First Communion Mass on May 1, 2021. Thirty-seven children entered the John XXIII Hall dressed in their white outfits, nervously saying goodbye to their parents. Moms were anxiously adjusting their little girl’s hair and veil while the dads straightened little white ties. Parents proceeded to the church as children got their pictures taken. Soon the children were lining up to enter the church. They processed down the aisle and sat with their parents. Father Boddie and Deacon George celebrated Mass as the children listened attentively. Father Boddie’s homily spoke about the retreat the students had attended the night before, the importance of Mass attendance so they can receive Jesus weekly, and he praised the commitment of parents who are their child’s first teachers of the Catholic Faith. When it was time for Communion, parents went up the aisle with their child and presented them to Father Boddie. Each child bowed, made a throne with their hands, received the Body of Christ, and made the Sign of the Cross. Parents and children returned to their seats to pray. It was beautiful to see the families together, sharing their faith at the Altar of Christ.

Congratulations to the 37 children who received the for the first time!!

by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

You may have seen these words before but not known the author. The Paradoxical Commandments were written by Dr. Kent M. Keith in 1968 when he was a 19-year-old sophomore student at Harvard. He wrote it as part of a booklet for student leaders. So many people loved the sentiments it was passed around the world without anyone knowing his name. He was later gratified to know that so many groups and leaders had embraced it and that Mother Theresa had put it on the wall of her children’s home in Calcutta.
