The power plant consists of a two-stroke 125 cubic centimeters (7.6 cubic m) single-cylinder engine. The history and development of Cagiva Mito was Valentino Rossi's first bike, the eventual 9th MotoGP World Champion. In 1994, Rossi was granted the Mito plant by Cagiva team manager Claudio Lusuardi and cruised to the Italian title. In the 1990s, Mito was a rival to Aprilia AF1 125 FUTURA, followed by the RS125, a similar 2-clock 125 cc replica race. In 2012, production of the new Mitos was suspended. Mv Agusta's F3 was cited as reasons for the increasing environmental requirements for emissions. The last few Mito SP525s production were white, and personally signed by The CEO of Agus MVta Giovanni Castiglioni. The Mk I/II and SP The Mito models were introduced in 1989 as the Mk I. Mk II followed with minor changes such as inverted forks and a new front mudguard. The SP versions featured Marchesini rims and proportional suspension. The SP models also featured different engine and ignition parts. Evolution I and II 1995 Cagiva Mito Evolution I In 1994 the bike was restyled by Massimo Tamburini with similar lines to the then new Ducati 916, a design he also wrote. The similarity is particularly noticeable in the front and rear dousing. Evo I is identified by 3 spoke rims and a 7-speed gearbox, grey panels, hard colors on the tail section. Evo II is identified by 6 spoke rim rims 6-speed gearbox, solid colored bottom panels, white area on the tail part. In February 2007, Malaysian company MOFAZ announced that they would be locally assembling the latest batch of Mito 125 Evolution for Malaysian buyers. The bike will be known as the Momos Cagiva Mito 125 Fauzy's Edition and only 300 will be made for a production run. At the end of 2009, Cagiva abandoned the Evolution model, leaving only the Mito SP525 and Raptor 125 in the lineup. SP525 Cagiva Mito SP525 In 2005 at the EICMA Cagiva motorcycle show launched a limited version of the Mito competition, known as SP525. It's a bit of a tribute to the Cagiva GP500 (C594) racing bike. The front and back vows were changed to look more like the C594, eight-shoulder wrought aluminum wheels were added, while the speedometer, headlights and mirrors were removed to reduce overall weight. The bike is not road-legal. In 2008, Cagiva added the Mito SP525 road bike (not to be confused with the racing SP525 above) along with Mito Evo II. In terms of appearance, the new bike inherits some stylistic features from the SP525 competition, essentially similar to the front and rear vows. At the technical level, the bike retains almost the same rolling chassis as the Evo and the engine is still 125 cc two-stroke, but has had several changes, notably the new electronic carb system (designed in conjunction with Dell'Orto) regulating both fuel-air, oil mix and ignition, allowing it to pass tougher Euro-3 emission rules. The Mito 500 introduced the Mito 500 concept bike at EICMA Cagiva in November 2006. The two-stroke 125-cc engine was replaced by a fuel-injected four-stroke 500 cubic centimeters (31 cm) DOHC single, courtesy of Husqvarna. Replacing the two-stroke extension of the exhaust chamber is a tiny, seemingly unbaffled system, its output only visible at the back of the lower vod. With wrought-iron discs, it weighs 133 kilograms (293 pounds) - just 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds) more than Mito 125. Naked variants of Cagiva Planet Planet In 1998 Kagiva added the naked equivalent of Mito Evo, named Planet, which bears some resemblance to the monster Ducati. The planet, unlike Aprilia Tuono, has received all new vows, including a fuel tank that can hinge up allowing access to the open-facing helmet storage space. Raptor 125 In 2003 Cagiva discontinued Planet and renamed a particular motorcycle in 2004 as the Raptor 125, which is essentially the same, however, with changes in appearance.
