At 2,100 feet above sea level, the statue has been a landmark of the city since 1931. Upon descending, we drive through the artistic Santa Teresa area towards downtown Rio to visit the pyramid-shaped Catholic Cathedral, the Nossa Senhora do Rosario Church and The Black Museum. The Church was the center of African and Afro-Brazilian religious, social and political life. Next, we will visit the backstage of Rio’s Carnival Parade and understand what happens behind the scenes during this famous celebration (this is so much fun!). Your day ends in the famous Pedra do Sal, also called Little Africa, which was the center of the most important African community village in Rio, and has been the cradle of Samba for over a century. Enjoy a typical roda de samba (casual meeting of samba players) that takes place here on Fridays.
