Dear Greek Week Participant:

We are extremely excited about the Greek Week events this year! Greek Week is an annual event sponsored by the Office of Greek Life through the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils that will take place March 25-30, 2012. We want this year to exceed previous years, and in order for that to happen we need all of you to be as positive about Greek Week as we are! It is our #1 priority to make you feel comfortable approaching any of us if you have questions, comments, concerns or suggestions.

We hope that you will enjoy the opportunity to experience friendly competition in what should be not only a philanthropic event, but a week of enjoyment for the entire Duquesne Community!

This rulebook has been designed to be your guide through Greek Week. In this rulebook, you will find a schedule of events, event descriptions, and an outline of the point structure for the overall competitions. Additional information will be made available to you if any changes are made. Important information will be distributed and important decisions will be made at the Greek Week Committee Meetings, so it is crucial that you have your Greek Week committee member attend these meetings or points will be deducted. Please feel free to contact any of the Greek Week Chairpersons with any questions or concerns that you might have.

Best of luck in Greek Week 2012!

Fraternally,

Sean Wood & Justin Bernard Greek Week Committee Chairmen

An intoxicated person is considered any person who has any amount of a drug, including alcohol, introduced into their body since they woke up that morning.

The Office of Greek Life in conjunction with the Greek Week Committee defines a representative of your organization as one who is participating in a Greek Week Event, one who is competing in a Greek Week competition, or one who is attending a Greek Week event in any capacity (i.e. as a committee member, spectator, etc.)

Dear Chapters,

The following is an order form for the official 2012 Greek Week t-shirts. We are excited to announce that the theme for Greek Week 2012 is “The few, The Proud, The Greeks.” This year’s theme encourages Greeks to connect with our faculty, staff, parents, alumni and local/international philanthropies. We hope to show the Duquesne community that Greek Life at Duquesne is both proactive and philanthropic.

The t-shirts will capture the theme of Greek Week 2012. The current cost of each shirt is “?” This covers the cost of printing the shirts, plus a small contribution to the philanthropy. The scoring system for buying the t-shirts is in the 2012 Greek Week Rulebook. All order forms must be turned in by March 5TH at 2:00 PM to the Office of Greek Life. 9 General Rules

1. All Greek Week competitors shall be currently enrolled Duquesne Students. No non-active chapter members are permitted to register in Greek Week events. Only those students who are listed on the current chapter rosters as published each semester by the Office of Greek Life are permitted to register in any events. Discrepancies will be decided by the Office of Greek Life and the Greek Week Chairs. Chapters will be penalized for failure to appropriately monitor their representatives at each event.

2. Any National and/or Local Fraternity, Sorority or Colony recognized by the Office of Greek Life, in conjunction with the IFC/PHC may qualify for participation in Greek Week.

3. The Greek Week Committee must pass all new rules, events, and changes to the schedule by a majority vote of the Greek Week Committee. Meetings are open to anyone but only the committee member may vote.

4. There will be 15 minute wrap-up sessions after each night’s events for the Greek Week committee members. All committee members must attend.

5. Game brackets will be randomly selected during a Greek Week meeting. An equal number of bye's will be distributed per organization (In the event of odd numbers, the one Fraternity and one Sorority chapter who has purchased the highest percent of Greek Week t-shirts will be granted the “bye”. In the event that more than one organization’s entire chapter (100%) has bought t-shirts, the organization who turned in the completed form first will be granted the “bye”.) See also, t-shirt contest pg #6.

6. All competitive pairings and the order of participation in events will be determined by a drawing conducted at a meeting to be announced prior to the Opening Ceremonies of Greek Week.

7. Greek Sing practice times are permitted at all reasonable times prior to and during Greek Week- excluding one hour before, during and 15 minutes after all Greek Week events. Practices are not permitted after midnight so that practices do not interfere with studying and sleeping. Groups are not permitted in the ballroom to practice the entire spring semester. Groups found in violation of this rule will be disqualified from Greek Sing.

8. Greek Sing competition must adhere to all pre-established rules and regulations as provided to chapters prior to the event.

9. Unless a registration time is specifically noted, group representation should arrive 15 minutes early to all events.

10. There will be two components to the Greek Week Competition scoring process. This will include the Overall Competition scoring and the Participation scoring process. Scoring will be updated each morning and made available online at the Greek Week website: (http://www.greeklife.duq.edu/soc_liv/greekweek.html)

10 11. Failure to participate in a major event can and/or will result in complete point disqualification for a registered organization, as determined by the Office of Greek Life & Greek Week Committee.

12. Penalties (disqualification or deduction of points) to a chapter or individual decided by the Greek Week Chairs may be enforced when an organization does not organize, run and clean-up their assigned event in a proper and timely manner.

13. Associate Members are permitted to enter events and participate in Greek Week 2012 with the accompaniment of full-active members. Chapters that submit Associate Members in an event without Initiates can and/or will be disqualified from the event in question. The Greek Week committee reserves the right to approve Associate Members in events upon request under unique circumstances.

14. Intoxicated participants and spectators hinder the success of Greek Week and are a bad reflection on Duquesne Students and the Greek Community. Since the Office of Greek Life, through the Greek Week Committee and the IFC/PHC, recognize the Greek Week competition, the Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Chairpersons of each organization have been required to sign the Intoxication Understanding form. Therefore, any participant or spectator who is found intoxicated during an event, as stated in the form, will be asked to leave and their organization will be disqualified from the day's and/or week’s events. This includes all participants as well as committee members. Any discrepancies can be appealed to the Office of Greek Life prior to the end of Greek Week.

15. Violation of the Intoxication Policy will result in the Office of Greek Life and Greek Week Committee's action against your organization. This action will be at the discretion of the Office of Greek Life and Greek Week Chairs. Action will vary on a case-to-case basis, and can result in possible disqualification from the week's events.

16. Disruptive behavior, as determined by the Office of Greek Life & Greek Week Committee, is not permitted. Disruptive chapter members can result in point deduction in overall competition scoring and other related judicial action.

17. Trophies will be awarded to the top three chapters with the highest score totals of all Greek Week events. The Greek Cup will also be awarded to the first place Fraternity and Sorority. The Greek Cup is the overall revolving trophy displayed in the Duquesne Union with the two winning organizations inscribed on the trophy from year to year. Trophies will also be awarded to the winner of the Greek God and Goddess Pageant.

18. Exceptions to any of these policies/procedures, prior to the start of Greek Week, may be granted through vote of the Greek Week Committee Chairs. If a chapter that is being disputed has representation within the four chairs, that respective chair will not be part of the decision making process. This allows for fairness for both the respective chair’s chapter and the community- allowing no one to feel that there is partiality.

19. DECISIONS MADE BY THE OFFICE OF GREEK LIFE AND GREEK WEEK COMMITTEE ARE FINAL DURING THE WEEK OF GREEK WEEK.

11 Miscellaneous Banner Contest Banners will be displayed during the Greek Sing and will be scored and judged as indicated below: I. Scoring A. If a ball is deflected off a teammate and caught, the thrower is out, and the person who was hit may remain in the game. -Once a player is out, they must leave the court immediately and sit on the sidelines for the remainder of the round -However, if a team member catches a ball thrown by an opponent, they may pick a player who was thrown out that round to come back into play, and the player who threw the ball will be out.
