IB 2 Summer Assignment IB Theatre 2 (Seniors) You will each being completing your IB exams this year. The good thing is that you already completed your research presentation. Think about the skills it took to complete that assignment including: reading, research and exploration. You will be using all of these skills in the final three projects. In order for us to be able to be successful there are a few things you will have to complete this summer. DIRECTOR’S NOTEBOOK (ASSIGNMENT 1) WHAT IS THE PROJECT: Students will choose a published play text they have not previously studied and develop ideas for staging two moments of the play. Students prepare a Director’s Notebook of visuals and words (20 pages maximum). This is a theoretical exercise–the play text is not actually staged. Here is what you have to do this summer: 1. CHOOSE a play that you have not studied. Think about things you have always wanted to direct or focus on playwrights you really like. 2. READ the play: Probably more than once. 3. RESEARCH the Play: Begin writing a mini paper where you answer these questions about the play: a. The Play Text:What is the play you have chosen and why? What is it about? RESEARCH b. Context: Explain the theoretical and/or cultural contexts from which the play text originates. Why was it written? What was happening at the time? Why this play? RESEARCH c. Ideas Presented: Explain the major ideas presented in the play text? How are these presented by the playwright? RESEARCH d. A-C Are researched based. You will need quotes both direct and indirect. The paper should be that ..a paper. It is the start of the portfolio. The more of this you … have complete the better your life will be in September. TRUST ME. Remember to save your sources. You will need to create a comprehensive works cited COLLABORATIVE PROJECT (ASSIGNMENT 2) Each of you needs to research and put together a visual presentation of a devising company that is located somewhere in the world. Each person should research a different company. 1. Select a Devised Theatre Company that you will research. Use the list below. The book Devising Theatre also has an appendix that has several other companies listed. 5. Create a Google Slides Presentation that addresses the following: a. Based on your reading of the articles: i. What is devised theatre in your own words? ii. What did you find interesting? iii. What did you already know? iv. What do you want to know more about? v. How do you think you might approach devised work with your group? b. Your Personal Approaches to Theatre-Explain your personal context in theatre (which may includes approaches, interests and/or skills in theatre. YOU WROTE THIS DURING THE SUMMER ASSIGNMENT YOUR JUNIOR YEAR. GO BACK AND LOOK AT IT AND ADD). c. Interests in Theatre Explain your interests in theatre? d. Skills in Theatre Explain your skills do you bring to the theatre? What would you bring to a collaboration e. Introduction of Devising Company What company did you decide to research? f. Creative Approaches Employed by a Professional Devising Company: Explain the creative approaches this company uses to create theatre. How will you use those approaches in your work when you create you devised piece? (You may need to contact the company you have selected for information. This is all researched based and you should have quotes and ideas.) g. Video Include a video clip of the companies work. h. Include a MLA Formatted Works Cited page for all research and images. You should have a minimum of three sources including the companies webpage. Do not just create a PowerPoint of Words that you read off of the screen. 2. Make sure your PowerPoint is very visual. 3. Find a way to incorporate a video that is not blocked by the school server. SOLO THEATRE PROJECT (Assignment 3) ONLY THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST YEAR OF THIS COURSE WILL DO THIS ASSIGNMENT. IF YOU ARE A SENIOR AND YOU DID NOT TAKE IB 1 YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. Below you will find several theorists as well as some useful links. These links are things I have found and should in no way be the only research you do. The rule is that you need to find a theorist, do some research (Primary and Secondary Sources), and read a book they have written (Primary Source). These may or may not help in your understanding of the theorists works. Think outside the box and choose something that is challenging. Some links require you to be signed into your school account.
