  • Thoughts in Space
Thoughts In Space Some thoughts on Lost In Space It's difficult, although entertaining, trying to run a post-mortem on a TV show that ended decades ago. Particularly when that era was so different, even when looked at by one who was there for it. Such a look back is even harder when a number of the principals involved with the show have already passed on, and cannot share their insights any more. This is just an amateur's wonderings; I wouldn't have had the opportunity to speak with any of those we've lost, I'm certainly not someone with the privilege of speaking with those who are still this side of the veil. I have nothing besides what is already on the record out there. Lost In Space had tremendous potential: possibly even more than a certain other contemporary TV series, also set in space, and which I will not refer to herein, except as “That Other Series,” or “TOS” for short. Lost In Space had a classic premise, already tested in literature, a family of castaways, marooned far from home, trying to survive in a hostile environment. It had a powerful cast, much more star power than TOS, in fact: Guy Williams, alarmingly good looking, one time model, starred as “Zorro” in the Disney series of the same name. June Lockhart, well established as a dramatic movie actress, and came to Lost In Space after 6 years as Ruth Martin in the hit TV series Lassie. Long before Carol Brady, June was America's Mom.

Seyfarth PTAB Blog A legal look at Patent Trial and Appeal Board decisions and trends Even Clever Inventions Can Lack Patentable Subject Matter By Patrick T. Muffo Software patents have been under fire so much that the courts now appear sympathetic when invalidating the claims as lacking patentable subject matter. A recent case out of the Southern District of New York emphasized the judge’s appreciation of the invention and how “clever” the invention truly was. Alas, the court still invalidated the claims as being patent ineligible. The case of Stanacard, LLC v. Rubard, LLC, Case No. 1:12-cv-05176 (S.D.N.Y. November 18, 2015) relates to a call forwarding system that simplifies and reduces the cost of making long distance and international calls. The system provides a ten digit number to an end user, which the end user can call from a designated phone to reach a previously designated recipient. For example, the telephone service provider can provide a number 555-123-4567 to an end user, and the end user can associate that number with the mother of the end user. When the end user wishes to call his mother, he can simply dial the 555- 123-4567 number on the provided telephone, and the phone will contact the mother. While this system is less useful for domestic calling, it can be helpful for long distance calling where the recipient’s phone number may include a country code, city code, or other required additional digits. The court was noticeably impressed. The decision began by almost apologetically invalidating the patent-in-suit: “courts

2021 Primetime Emmy® Awards Ballot Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling All American The Bigger Picture Synopsis When a college scout comes to talk to Spencer, he must decide if the strings attached is worth it. Technical Description The unique challenge of The Bigger Picture was using almost exclusively heatless techniques while creating styles that suited the contemporary culture of our young cast. A library of approaches were used to achieve the perfect kinky twists, swirly wavy edges and sleek ponytails which included flexible rods, finger coiling, braids, roller sets, expert use of product and twisting of textured hair. With zero last looks (due to Covid) and minimal to no heat we achieved high artistry and precise continuity. Away Goodnight Mars Synopsis Emma's behavior becomes a cause for concern, Kwesi and Lu team up on a plant mystery, and Rex makes an impulsive decision with far-reaching consequences. Technical Description I chose this Episode 7, Goodnight Mars for the natural resecting of hair. The hairstyles executed were with exclusion techniques to create a natural appearance while respecting the personalities of each character. Behind Her Eyes Behind Her Eyes Synopsis A stunning revelation makes Louise dig deeper into David and Adele's past, and what she discovers pushes her to demand the truth. Technical Description To make the series work, we had to change the look of every characters’ hair from the present-day to the flashbacks (still contemporary, just a few years earlier). Louise, our protagonist had a big transformation using wigs, wefts, and hair extensions. As we were never shooting in sequence, many of the looks needed to be changed quickly.
