Finance Fact Sheet Lowestoft Sixth Form College 16-19 Bursary Application forms for the college bursary will be sent out with enrolment information during July/August for the 2019/20 academic year. Forms can also be obtained throughout the year from Student Services, and are also available online at our website: www.lowestoftsfc.ac.uk under ‘Student Life, Financial Help’ 2019/20 Bursary funds are available to eligible students whose household income is less than £20,000 (this includes Working Tax Credit). Evidence of income is required by providing an up to date award letter relating to qualifying benefits in payment. Child Benefit and/or Housing Benefit are not taken into account when assessing income. Students can use their bursary award to help pay for: • Travel to college • College visits • University visits and interviews • Books • Equipment • Stationery Free College Meals The free college meal value is £3.00 per day and is available to eligible students whose family are receiving qualifying benefits with a household income of £16,190 or less (this figure may change for 2019/20). If you are in receipt of both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, or Working Tax Credit alone, this does not qualify you for free meals. Students entitled to a Free College Meal will also be eligible to receive funds from the bursary, which will be paid into the student’s bank account. You can find more detailed information on the college website. Other Funding Available Access to Learning Fund A small amount of college funding is available for emergency situations. Applications for this fund will require a meeting with the head of Student Services. Care to Learn Funding Government funding is available for young parents to help with nursery fees. Travel Information Bus Lowestoft Bus Station is approximately 10 minutes walk from the College. There are frequent bus services throughout the area which terminate in Lowestoft. The two main bus companies that operate in the surrounding area are the First Group and Anglian Bus services. You may like to approach the bus/coach company that travels near to where you live to find out more. Endeavour Card Save money on bus fares with an endeavour card 16 to 19 year old Endeavour Card holders are entitled to a minimum 25% discount off the price of a full adult fare on all participating services. Subsidised bus services Loddon Area, Somerleyton & Blundeston Transport This service enables students living in outlying villages in the area that are not supported adequately by public transport, to achieve their aim to study at Lowestoft Sixth Form College. This service covers the route: Chedgrave > Claxton > Thurton > Loddon > Hales > Thurlton > Haddiscoe > Somerleyton > Blundeston > Lowestoft Sixth Form College The transport is subsidised by Lowestoft Sixth Form College and runs twice a day (term time only). Pick up times are at designated stops along the route arriving at college in time for the start of classes. The return journey leaves college at 4.15pm. If you live in a village not listed but is close to the area covered please let us know your needs. We may be able to add to the route. *There will be a new subsidised bus service for the Belton/Bradwell area in September 2019! Train Lowestoft Train Station is situated in the town centre (about 12 minutes walk from the campus) and has frequent connections to Norwich (on the Wherry Lines), Ipswich and London (on the East Suffolk Lines). The station is staffed 7 days a week. Trains from Lowestoft Station stop at Brampton, Beccles, Brundall, Cantley, Darsham, Ipswich, Haddiscoe, Halesworth, Melton, Norwich, Oulton Broad, Reedham, Saxmundham, Somerleyton and Woodbridge. ü www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk TRAVELü www.eastsuffolkline.com Bicycle We have 100 sheltered and secure bike racks available with lockers for storage. The College is adjacent to National Cycle Route 1 (Fakenham to Harwich and passing through Felixstowe, Ipswich, Lowestoft and Beccles). Motorbike and Moped A limited number of designated parking bays are available and large lockers for storage. We do not have any student car parking.
