Dear Friends,

From the REQUESTED BY SALGYAL:

By offering lamps to fine You will have eyes like the petals of a blue lotus, Clear, beautiful, and wide. You will have the stainless eyes of a god.

~ Many such benefits are described in and .

On January 1, 2018 Karma Triyana Dharmachakra will continue the First Light tradition with the aspiration of bringing peace into our daily lives and, from there, to our community, our country, and our world. His Holiness the 17th will start his day with this aspiration and so we join with him in beginning the New Year in this way. Part of His Holiness’ activity is to point the way to living a life of love and compassion, to teach us to protect our environment and to provide the light of wisdom. Lamp offerings have special meaning in this regard: shining the light on our inner wisdom and reminding us of the clear path to living each day to create a life of peace. This year we also celebrate the completion of the Eight Auspicious Stupas at KTD, the fulfillment of the wish of His Eminence the 3rd Jamgön Kongtrul and the aspiration of Venerable Karthar Rinpoche. We invite you to light your lamps of peace — to join in our offering and prayers to help the light of wisdom reach all corners of the world and to rejoice in the blessings that the stupas will bring in the New Year. You may dedicate your lamp offering to loved ones, to celebrate an occasion, to pray for the long lives of His Holiness the Dalai , His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, his heart sons, and other great masters, including , the Abbot of KTD. Your support allows KTD to further the activity of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa and to welcome students to this holy place of practice. We hope you will join us at KTD in prayer and celebration at 7:00 a.m. Eastern time on Monday, January 1, 2018, which will be the 19th First Light celebration. If you cannot join us in person, please join us in prayer from wherever you are.

Yours in the Dharma, MANI PEME HUNG Khenpo Karma Tenkyong President
