In the 7th Intervarsity Handball Invitation  !"#$%&'()*+, Tournament, the HKUST Handball Team won the  !"#$%&'()*+,- overall championship, men's team championship and women's team second runner-up overall. In the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races  !"#$%&' 2000 held at Shatin, the 30-member HKUSTSU Dragon Boat Team won the Post-Secondary Class Championship.

Many HKUST students excelled in organizing extra-curricular events. For example, the student societies from the Science School's five departments successfully organized the first Science School Summer Camp during the 1999 summer vacation. A total of 200 secondary school students participated in the camp.

Overseas exchange students at HKUST also actively participated in campus activities. During the year, Prof Liou also received a number of awards including the Mac Van Valkenburg Award 2000, which is the highest award granted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Circuits and Systems Society.

This was the first Court meeting chaired by Dr the Hon Sze-Yuen CHUNG in  !"#$%&!"'()*+, his capacity as Pro-Chancellor of the University.  !

At this joint meeting, three of the Court's task forces  !"#NVVVNNNO reported on their recent progress. The Task Force on  !"#$%&'())* Executive Education, which advises on how the University can contribute to executive education in  !" #$%&'()*+,- Hong Kong, is convened by Mr Paul CHENG. Sir David  !"##$% AKERS-JONES leads the Task Force on Campus Development to explore opportunities for development  !"#$%&'(!)*+ within and outside the campus. Dr Helmut SOHMEN's  !"#$%&'()*+,- Task Force on Art and Culture has been actively  !"#$%&'()*+,-. promoting the arts and broadening cultural horizons on campus.  !"#$%&'()*+,-.

At the same meeting, the Court received a progress  !"#$%&'()*+,-. report from the Council Chairman on the formulation  !"#$%&'()*+,-. of the University's Mission, Vision, and Objectives  !"#$ Statement.
