Tonight we gather at the Portland Art Museum to celebrate and support the work of Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro 6:50 pm East. Habitat has a proven model that works. Families and individuals purchase 7:00 pm an affordable home and help build it with the support of our staff and Super Silent Auction Ends volunteers. Habitat also performs critical home repairs to help prevent the displacement of homeowners with low incomes. Seating for Dinner We have developed a bold plan to triple the number of people Habitat serves each year. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Amanda Ives [email protected] (503) 243-5116 49 Portland Restaurants Stand Against Domestic Violence via Citywide Dine-out Fundraiser On Wednesday, May 17th more than 45 restaurants will donate a portion of their day’s proceeds to support Raphael House of Portland, Multnomah County’s largest domestic violence shelter. This year’s eighth annual event is setting a new record for support from Portland’s culinary community, with more involved eateries than ever before. Restaurants in Portland, Lake Oswego, and Beaverton have pledged 10-25% of their profits to aid the agency’s life-saving domestic violence shelter and prevention programs. Many beloved restaurants are involved, including Mother’s Bistro & Bar, Ruby Jewel, Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai, Quaintrelle, The Country Cat, Radar Restaurant, Acadia Bistro, Farm Spirit, Altabira City Tavern, Hale Pele, Nel Centro, Fifty Licks, Pacific Pie, Ya Hala, and more. While over 3,500 students of color entered school with the guidance of Early Steps, it is humbling to know that the impact has been so much greater. Doors where academic excellence is the norm and children learn and play with others whose life’s experiences are not the same as theirs, benefitting all children. Presents 13th Annual Worlds of Flavor International Conference & Festival JAPAN: FLAVORS OF CULTURE From Sushi and Soba to Kaiseki, A Global Celebration of Tradition, Art, and Exchange November 4-6, 2010 The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone Napa Valley, California PRESENTERS & GUEST CHEFS BIOS TARO ABE is the second generation chef of Washoku OTAFUKU, a restaurant that specializes in the regional cuisine of Akita, including ―Kiritanpo,‖ a unique rice pot dish. Chef Abe’s cuisine is representative of this Northern Japan region that is famous for rice farming and sake brewing along with other agriculture, fishing, and forestry. (Akita, Japan) ELIZABETH ANDOH is an American writer and lecturer specializing in Japanese food and culture. She owns and operates ―A Taste of Culture,‖ a culinary arts program in Tokyo and Osaka. Ms. Andoh is the only non-Japanese member of the prestigious Japan Food Journalists Association and also contributes to American publications, such as the New York Times. As a lecturer on historical and cultural aspects of Japanese society and cuisine, she conducts workshops and speaks frequently to industry and general-interest audiences on both sides of the Pacific.
