BURSAR Mrs Hinton, Our Bursar, Is Moving on to Take up a New Role As School Operations Manager for a Multi-Academy Trust in Peterborough Caring ~ Considerate ~ Cooperative ~ Courteous ~ Conscientious Langtoft Primary School Newsletter #133 Term 5/Friday 3 May 2019 THIS MONTH’S FEATURED RIGHT: Article 29 Your education should help you use and develop your talents and abilities. It should also help you learn to live peacefully, protect the environment and respect other people. THIS MONTH’S FEATURED GLOBAL GOALS: 11 Sustainable cities and communities; 12 Responsible consumption and production; 13 Climate action Dear Duty Bearers, Welcome back to Term 5. I hope that you were able to enjoy the great weather we were treated to over the Easter weekend. The new term is off to a good start with Y4 having enjoyed their first residential visit, a ‘No Electricity Day’ and our first School Games Day providing the children with access to Article 29 and Global Goals 11, 12 and 13. REALLY IMPORTANT PARENT/TEACHER CONSULTATION You already know that in this academic year we are offering a third opportunity for you to take part in a Parent/Teacher consultation – one more than the traditional two-a- year pattern. The consultations will take place on Tuesday 4 and Thursday 6 June, starting at 3:30pm. We are changing the way that you ‘book’ an appointment to meet with your child/ren’s teacher. We shall not be sending home a paper-based form for you to complete and return. Instead you will be able to use the Parent Evening Manager tool on ParentMail. This will be the only way that appointments can be made. Please note, the booking window for appointments will open at 7pm on Thursday 16 May and will close at 7pm on Tuesday 21 May. If you have more than one child at our school, we advise that you check the availability of all of the teachers you would like to meet with before finalising your time slots. Please make appointments at least 20 minutes apart. As this is a new system, there may well be some teething problems. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenham in the office – as always, she will be happy to help. Mrs Greenham works until 1pm each school day. During the consultation, your child/ren’s teacher will advise you on whether your child is working towards or working within the expected standard for their age in reading, in writing Langtoft Primary School ~ Newsletter #133 May 2019 and in mathematics. For a small number of children, they may be working at greater depth within the expected standard. This information will be confirmed in your child’s Annual Academic Report due to be sent home on Friday 12 July along with the results of any statutory assessments (EYFS, Y1, Y2 and Y6) STIBBINGTON Y4 RESIDENTIAL Last week, children from Y4 enjoyed a three day adventure at Stibbington Environmental Centre. Pond dipping, tree tickling, bug hunting and owl pellet dissecting were just a few of the activities the children experienced under the guidance of the Centre staff. Dylan found the pirate’s treasure and everyone ate some of it! The sun shone each day and we played out in it! Becky, one of the Centre’s staff who looked after the group praised the group for being ‘calm, engaged and polite’. What a lovely compliment! Thank you to Mrs Britten, Mrs Wall, Mrs Adams and Miss Henderson for accompanying the children and looking after them so well. Thank you to the children for upholding the Langtoft name. Naturally… Langtoft Primary School ~ Newsletter #133 May 2019 Sports day WEDNESDAY 22 MAY Our Sports Day takes place on Wednesday 22 May, with FS/KS1 starting at 10.00am and KS2 starting at 1.30pm. The event will take place at the pavilion sports field. If the running track is too wet from overnight rain or if the weather is poor, a decision to cancel will be made by 9:00am and posted on our website. An email will also be sent via ParentMail. Children are asked to wear their NAVY BLUE P.E. SHORTS and trainers/plimsolls. Instead of their usual navy blue PE t-shirt, we ask that children wear a t-shirt in the colour of their house team i.e. red, blue, yellow or green. (This can be turned inside out to hide the image/text printed on the front. ‘Water’ house could wear their navy blue P.E. t-shirt! Spectators are welcome to bring their own chairs or rugs to make them comfortable during the event. We ask that you do not cross the track to speak to your child. If there is a problem, please approach a member of staff in the first instance. Thank you for your cooperation. If you wish your child to wear sun protection, please apply this before the start of school as creams and lotions are not permitted in school. You may wish to provide a sun hat and a rain coat, too! If time permits, there will be a Mums’ Race and a Dads’ Race…We look forward to seeing you there. SAFEGUARDING : Speak out. Stay safe. NSPCC DAY Thursday 23 May is an important day in our calendar of events aimed at teaching children how to keep safe and know their right to be protected from harm (Article 19). I am pleased to have been able to arrange a Speak out. Stay Safe day for the children and for you. Led by the NSPCC, the day involves assemblies and workshops for the children in the morning and then at 1:45pm until 3:00pm (just in time for picking-up time) in the school hall is an… Langtoft Primary School ~ Newsletter #133 May 2019 The NSPCC are hoping for a minimum of 20 parents to attend the workshop. We shall be sending formal invitations out next week. Please sign up. To make the Speak Out. Stay Safe day a memorable one, the children are asked to attend school that day dressed in as much green clothing as they can find! (The NSPCC’s mascot, Buddy, is green.) • Newsletter May 2020
Issue 21 Newsletter May 2020 Alia is cycling 100 miles in May to raise money for The Lily Foundation Executive Headteacher’s Message Dear students; parents / carers and staff, As we continue in this period of extended lockdown, instead of the weekly update that I have become accustomed to issuing on a Friday afternoon, please have a good look through this bumper newsletter that shares many success from this academic year. I think this must be the biggest edition ever and I would like to thank everyone that has contributed and helped put this together. In these unusual times, it is good to be reminded of some of the Spalding Academy events and achievements since September and to remind students of the general buzz of life at School that we can hopefully get back to as soon as safely possible. I hope by sharing this issue of the newsletter it will help our students and our families feel more connected to the school, during this period of absence? There are far too many great aspects of this publication for me to pull out as being ‘highlights’ and share with you, so I will let you find your own favourite story, report or image. However, a few stand out articles that I know will prompt fond memories include the Geography Department’s Year 7 Fantastic Places homework project, which is always so popular. This year the models that students built were so complex and professional, they were all truly impressive. Also, since September the Art & DT department have yet again excelled in the creative area.
