Media Release for Immediate Release Release Number: BBB-2016 - 02 - 05 Media Release For immediate release Release Number: BBB-2016 - 02 - 05 Better Business Bureau Serving Saskatchewan Announces Jim Hopson to speak at 2016 Torch Awards Regina, Saskachewan (February 5, 2016) – In celebration of exemplary leadership in ethical business practices and service excellence by Saskatchewan business and professional organizations, the BBB will host the 12th annual Torch Awards on Thursday, April 21th, 2015 at Queensbury Convention Centre in Regina. BBB Saskatchewan is celebrating 35 years in the Pursuit of Excellence. The BBB is excited to announce that Jim Hopson, will be the keynote speaker and will be facilitating the Pre-event panel discussion on a current ethical dilemma. Jim’s expertise in presenting on topics such as Leadership, Team Building, Managing Change and Building Excellence are all important in the broader discussion of ethics. There is no doubt that Jim has many stories as a result of his experiences as an educator, Director of Education and both his playing career and CEO for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Some of them are featured in his new book, Running The Riders: My decade as the CEO of Canada’s Team. Jim served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saskatchewan Roughriders until retiring in 2015. Under his guidance, the Roughriders made 4 Grey Cup appearances and captured both the 2007 and 2013 Grey Cups. Jim’s leadership has helped turn the Saskatchewan Roughriders into one of the CFL’s model franchises and achieve record profits while continuing the teams’ deep rooted commitment to the communities in Saskatchewan. He was the driving force behind the resurgence of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club and was awarded the Hugh Campbell Distinguished Leadership Award for his contributions to the Canadian Football League, the game of football and Canada’s sporting culture. Jim is thrilled to have the opportunity to speak at the Torch Awards celebration. The BBB is accepting nominations of businesses and organizations that exhibit ethical business practices in seven categories. An independent panel of judges will review their applications.     FOR THE RECORD MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT HUGH VASSOS It has been a busy spring and summer at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF). I would like to begin by thanking two retiring board members, Reid Mossing & Richard Ziffle, for their contributions to the SSHF. At our Annual General Meeting in May, Reid stepped down as Treasurer following seven years of service on the Board (2005-2012), while Richard completed one three-year term (2009-2012). I wish both individuals all the best as they pursue new volunteer interests and look forward to their continued involvement in our programming and special events. May was a month in which we also saw the retirement of Barr Godkin, who had been with the SSHF as our Administrative Assistant/Researcher, for five years. The Board and staff wish Barr well as he enjoys a life free of work-related schedules and deadlines. Induction 2012 gave us an opportunity to showcase the new direction established within our strategic planning process and the weekend has been deemed a resounding success. It was a pleasure to have the members of the Class of 2012 on hand for all of our events, and we were thrilled with the number of past inductees who chose to get involved as well. The SSHF exists because of all of you and your accomplishments and history truly comes alive when we can welcome you back into our facility. The Sports Investors Club Teammate program is off to a great start. Thank you to everyone who has chosen to support this new means of fundraising for the SSHF.

    FOR THE RECORD MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT SCOTT WATERS I am excited, honoured and humbled to have been elected President of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF). I will do my best to carry out my duties well, keeping in mind the many impressive and notable individuals who have held the position since the inception of the SSHF in 1966. I would be remiss in not specifically acknowledging my immediate predecessor, Trent Fraser, whose passion and energy will be difficult to match. A little about myself…I am a lawyer from Saskatoon, practicing with the firm McDougall Gauley LLP. I have a beautiful wife, Carmen, and three children, who keep me very busy. I have been a member of the board of directors of the SSHF since 2006, and a member of the Executive Committee for several years. During this time the SSHF has undergone great transition and has seen many improvements, including the addition of several exciting new staff members as well as a re-branding and updated website and full immersion into the world of social media. It remains a priority to secure a more suitable location for the SSHF, which is necessary for ongoing success and sustainability. In the meantime, we are focusing on providing the best product we can with our current resources and have made vast improvements to the current location; wherever possible ensuring such improvements are transferable to a new location. On June 13, 2015 the SSHF held its annual Induction Dinner at the Conexus Arts Centre, which was a great success and celebrated a diverse group of athletes, teams and builders.
