LAST GAME: Oct. 30, 5-1 loss at Arizona: Arizona received goals from five different players, including Galchenyuk's first as a Coyote, en route to a fourth consecutive win and a 5-1 victory against Ottawa at Gila River Arena. The Arizona win was also its third consecutive against Ottawa, the franchise's most against the Senators since having won five straight games over the Senators from 1/8/94 to 12/13/96. Richardson, Stepan, Panik and Ekman-Larsson also tallied for the home side while Formenton's first NHL goal served as the visitors' lone reply. Stepan's goal was the Coyotes' NHL-leading sixth shorthanded marker of the campaign and saw the franchise register a shorthanded goal in a third consecutive contest for the first time since its relocation to Arizona. Raanta made 25 saves to earn the victory in goal for the Coyotes while Condon allowed three goals on 11 shots in taking the loss before giving way to Anderson who made 22 saves on 24 shots in relief. Scratches: Borowiecki (suspension), Rodewald; Injuries: Gaborik, Harpur, Pageau, Smith, Tkachuk; Shots: OTT - 26, ARI - 35; PP: OTT - 0-4, ARI - 1-2.

BROADCAST INFORMATION: Tonight's game against Buffalo will be broadcast regionally on TSN5 and on RDS2. On the radio, the game will be available locally via TSN 1200 (English) and 94,5 Unique-FM (French).

WHAT'S NEXT: Ottawa concludes a home-and-home set with Buffalo when the teams meet at KeyBank Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. The contest will mark the second of four regular-season meetings between the Senators and Sabres this season and the first of two contests in the Queen City.

TONIGHT’S GAME SABRES at SENATORS • This is the first of four meetings between the Sabres and Senators this season. • Last meeting: Ottawa defeated Buffalo 4-2 in Buffalo on April 4 • Next meeting: Saturday, Nov. 3 in Buffalo • The Sabres are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games vs. the Senators; 5-3-2 on the road • This is the 138th game all-time between Buffalo and Ottawa; Buffalo has a 67-50-20 series record. • The Sabres are 31-27-12 on the road against the Senators all-time.

THIS DAY IN SABRES HISTORY • The Sabres are 11-5-3 all-time on November 1. • November 1, 1981: Bob Sauve stops 37 shots and Tony McKegney scores twice in a 6-2 victory over the Flyers at the Aud. • November 1, 2008: earns his eighth NHL shutout and scores twice as the Sabres defeat the Capitals 4-0 at home.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW • The Sabres are on their first five-game point streak (3-0-2) since they had points in nine straight games (7-0-2) from March 10 to 27, 2012. • With a 6-4-2 (.583) record in October, the Sabres posted their best opening month since the 2011-12 season (6-4-0) and their best month with at least five games since March 2016. • The Sabres have gone 8-1-3 in their last 12 games against the Senators, with the lone regulation loss coming in the last meeting between the teams. • Entering tonight’s game, the Sabres have recorded at least a point in seven straight visits to Ottawa (5-0-2), including every game since the beginning of the 2015-16 season. It is Buffalo’s longest road point streak in the all-time series between the teams. • If he dresses, tonight will be Jason Pominville’s 1,000th NHL game.

If they score four tonight, it would be the first time the team has done so in four straight road games since Nov. 2 to 13, 2006.

KILLING IT The Sabres have killed off each of their last 12 penalties and enter tonight’s game with four straight games without allowing a power- play goal. • During this streak, the Sabres’ goaltenders have turned aside 20 shots on the power play and the team has killed off 23:54 of power- play time. • It’s the Sabres’ best penalty-killing stretch since the team killed 17 consecutive penalties from Dec. 8 to 22, 2017.

HOME-AND-HOME • Tonight’s game is the first in a home-and-home series between the Sabres and Senators that concludes Saturday afternoon in Buffalo. • The Sabres and Penguins have previously played seven home-and-home series, with the Sabres going 5-2-0 in the home games and 2-3-2 (one tie) in the road games. Phil Housley enters his second season behind the bench for the Sabres after completing his first season as an NHL head coach in 2017-18. The Hockey Hall of Famer and former Sabres defenseman is the 18th head coach in Buffalo’s franchise history and the seventh alumnus to serve as the team’s head coach.

Housley joined the Sabres after helping to guide the Nashville Predators to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history. Named an assistant coach on May 22, 2013, Housley was a driving force behind one of the NHL’s best defensive groups throughout his tenure.

A native of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Housley began his coaching career in 2004 as head coach of Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota. During his nine seasons at the helm, Housley turned around the school’s program while also accepting numerous opportunities to coach for Team USA at the international level.
