He led the Bears to the Calder Cup Playoffs following a 2018-19 regular season record of 43-25-4-4. Under Carbery’s direction, Hershey broke a franchise record by earning standings points in 17 consecutive regular season games. The historic streak lifted Hershey from last place in the AHL in December, to an April playoff berth. Carbery was named the 26th head coach in franchise history on June 26, 2018. South Division The native of Victoria, British Columbia has ties to the Chocolate and White, serving as the head coach and director of hockey operations for Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, from 2011-2016. In his five seasons at the helm, Carbery compiled a 207-115-38 record with the Stingrays, making him the all-time winningest coach in South Carolina history. Carbery was the winner of the John Brophy Award as the ECHL’s Coach of the Year in 2014, and was the runner-up for the award in 2015 and 2016. South Carolina qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of Carbery’s five seasons as head coach, and he helped guide the Stingrays to a pair of division titles, and Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2015 and 2016. Carbery’s 2014-15 team registered an ECHL-record 23-game win streak during the regular season and advanced to the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals, falling in seven games to the Allen Americans. In each of the five seasons under Carbery’s direction, the Stingrays improved their point total. Carbery served as the head coach of the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in 2016-17, and also earned a nod as an assistant coach for Team Canada Black in the 2017 U-17 World Hockey Challenge, working with fellow assistant coach and former Hershey enforcer Louis Robitaille. A forward, Carbery had a four-year professional playing career in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL before joining the coaching ranks. The graduate of St. Norbert College served as an alternate captain for South Carolina during his tenure with the club, and helped the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. PATRICK WELLAR - ASSISTANT COACH Patrick Wellar returned to Hershey as an assistant coach ahead of the 2018-19 season after playing parts of six seasons with the Bears from 2008-2014. Wellar, a four- time champion and veteran of nearly 750 professional games as a player, is well-known in Hershey. A former defender, Wellar was a stalwart on Hershey's blue line during his playing career. He was part of Hershey's 2010 Calder Cup Championship team that went 60-17-0-3 in regular season play before ultimately claiming the franchise's 11th title. In total, the Carrot River, Saskatchewan native appeared in 260 games with Hershey, scoring 46 points (7 goals, 39 assists), and posting a +24 rating. He also appeared in 36 playoff contests with the club. Following his departure from Hershey, Wellar served as a player/assistant coach with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies in 2014-15, and Alaska Aces in 2015-16. Upon his retirement, Wellar moved behind the bench permanently as an assistant coach with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, guiding the club to a 36-29-6-1 record in 2015-16. He joined the ECHL's Reading Royals for the 2017-18 season in the same capacity, helping the club secure a playoff berth with a 39-24-9-0 record, good for a third place in the North Division. Wellar's return to Hershey also reunited him with head coach Spencer Carbery. Wellar was a teammate of Carbery's for parts of two seasons with Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays. The duo teamed up to guide the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. In his 12-year playing career, Wellar, a 3rd round selection of the Capitals in 2002, amassed over 300 games in the AHL, making stops in Peoria, Worcester, Toronto, and Hershey. His resume also includes 441 games at the ECHL level, including an All-Star Game appearance in 2005. Wellar is one of just four players to win the Kelly Cup Championship three times. In addition to his title in South Carolina, he was victorious with Alaska in 2006 and Reading in 2013. SCOTT ALLEN - ASSISTANT COACH Scott Allen joined the Hershey Bears as an assistant coach in August 2019. He brings over 20 years of NHL, AHL, and ECHL coaching experience to Hershey. Prior to joining Hershey, Allen most recently served as an assistant coach for the two seasons seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, overseeing the team's defense and penalty kill units. The Coyotes were tied for the top penalty kill unit in the NHL in 2018-19 at 85%, and the team tied for 5th in the NHL in goals against. Allen has additional NHL experience as an assistant coach with Florida (2016-17) and with the New York Islanders (2009-12). The New Bedford, Massachusetts native has vast experience coaching in the AHL, most recently with the Portland Pirates.

2018-19 !!!!!CHICAGO!WOLVES ! GAME!NOTES CHICAGO at COLORADO OCTOBER 5, 2018 8 p.m. AHLTV THE!=>TH!ANNIVERSARY!SEASON 2018-19 After months of preparation and anticipation, the 2018-19 American Hockey League season finally has TALE!OF!THE!TAPE arrived for the Chicago Wolves. Tonight marks the start of the franchise’s 25th season overall and 18th year as part of the American Hockey League. It seems fitting to open the year against the Colorado REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-0-0-0 Colorado | 0-0-0-0 Chicago Eagles because it’s a milestone occasion for them as well. The Eagles are making their AHL debut as they were welcomed as the league’s 31st team earlier this year. LAST MEETING April 22, 2018 Just as the Wolves are known for being four-time league champions, the Eagles enter this year riding the momentum of back-to-back championships in the ECHL. They have become partners with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche this season, so their roster does not bear much resemblance to the group that claimed the 2018 Kelly Cup. Only six Eagles return, but a good chunk of Colorado’s Opening Night 0-0-0-0 0-0-0-0 roster played for San Antonio last year as the Rampage served as the Colorado Avalanche’s NHL partner. That group includes former Wolves forward Andrew Agozzino (18 goals, 36 assists in 2016-17). 2017-18 !!!!!CHICAGO!WOLVES ! GAME!NOTES CHICAGO at GRAND RAPIDS OCTOBER 27, 2017 6 p.m. THE U TOO 2017-18 FAMILIAR!FACES!IN!ENEMY!PLACES TALE!OF!THE!TAPE When forward Teemu Pulkkinen steps onto the ice tonight, he will be playing against a slew of 2016-17 REGULAR-SEASON SERIES familiar faces in a familiar arena. However, after spending two full seasons and earning a Calder Cup 8-2-0-0 Grand Rapids | 2-5-3-0 Chicago with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Pulkkinen comes to Van Andel Arena as the enemy. This isn’t the first time the 25-year-old has faced the Griffins in different colors. During the 2016-17 campaign, Pulkkinen LAST MEETING was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Wild. Of the 47 games he skated in with the Iowa Wild — May 13, 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs Minnesota’s AHL affiliate — eight of those contests were against Grand Rapids. Additionally, he made his Wild debut against Grand Rapids. VAN!REPAIR 2-4-0-1 2-3-1-0 The Wolves have struggled at Van Andel Arena over the last five seasons and have a 7-8-3-0 record to show for it. While that record is better than they fare in their own building — Allstate Arena (6-10-2-0) — 2016-17 SERIES LEADERBOARD against Grand Rapids, there is still plenty of room for improvement. Chicago especially struggled last season, earning just a single win at The Van in five regular-season games. While the Wolves received GRAND!RAPIDS CHICAGO the raw end of the deal, three of those contests were one-goal contests and two went to overtime.
