Transmotion Vol 3, No 2 (2017) Lockbolted Letters to Turbo DAVID GROULX I hope your enjoying spring. I know I’d be enjoying it much more if I was with you. Happy belated Easter, you know I ain’t much of a Christian. I got your card today, it was wonderful I read it over and over again. I sure do miss you guys, I’ve been doing crosswords, I’m getting better at them. There’s this song in my head, You wouldn’t like it baby/ you wouldn’t like it her/ there ain’t no entertainment and the judgements are severe. I’m sure Leonard Cohen was singing about this place because nobody likes it here. Even the guards. I’m trying to relax, trying to recapture the dream I had about you last night, but the guards came and woke me up for work it’s a perverted sense of humor that runs through this place; (they will be reading this of course) Sometimes I can’t wait for lights out, that I might get the chance to dream of you again. I hoping to get a book change, this week I’ve read Arthur Miller’s play All My Sons three times, I guess it’s his opinion on modern society, the family living in a military industrial complex. Other than that, the kitchen is hard work, we’re always busy, 161 David Groulx “Lockbolted Letters to Turbo” I mean ALWAYS; but most of the crew pull their own weight and we’re always joking around.

Radiohead members independently released the album with Nigel Godrich, an arrangement they used for their subsequent albums. In addition to the song Lucky, recorded in 1995, Radiohead recorded OK Computer in Oxfordshire and Bath between 1996 and early 1997, mainly in the historic St Catherine's Court mansion. The band distanced themselves from the guitar, lyrically introspective style of their previous album The Bends. THE abstract texts of OK Computer, densely layered sound and eclectic influences laid the groundwork for Radiohead's later, more experimental works. The album depicts a world fraught with unbridled consumerism, social exclusion, emotional isolation and political malaise; as such, OK Computer is said to have a prophetic understanding of the mood of 21st century life. Unconventional production methods on the album include natural reverb through recording on the stairs, and the lack of audio separation, allowing the instruments not to reconnect separately.

M A G A Z I N E MENDOCINO COAST PROPERTY Volume 28 • Number 7 • Issue 669 • Mendocino County’s Own Real Estate Publication • January, 2015 • Published monthly Page 2 Real Estate Magazine December 19, 2014 n a wind-swept bluff two miles north of the village of Mendocino on the rugged coast of Northern California, sits the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, a friendly sentinel for coastal mariners for over one hundred years. Its signature ten-second flash and once booming fog signal has provided a much needed navigational reference from the early days of the intrepid lumber schooners carrying redwood lumber for California’s expanding population in the early twentieth century, to today’s commercial and sport fishermen, to the huge container ships heading north to Portland and Puget Sound on the distant horizon. The Point Cabrillo Light Station has celebrated many milestones over the last twenty years: relighting of the beautifully restored Fresnel lens in August 1999; major awards from the governor for the restoration of the lightkeepers' houses in 2007; the centenary of the lighthouse in June 2009, and not least the new red roof on the Second Assistant Lightkeeper’s House last summer! This fall more exciting news was received at Point Cabrillo. Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association President Tanya Smart told volunteers, staff, and community supporters that the United States Coast Guard had decided after all to maintain the historic Fresnel lens at Point Cabrillo as the official federal Aid to Navigation [ATON for short] on our coast. The hundred-and-five-year-old lens will continue to burn brightly in the light tower guiding our local mariners, as it has done over all these years, even in this day of hi-tech aids such as radar and global positioning systems.

AGORAPHOBIA Act I Written by Raphael Cantor OVER BLACK: THUD. THUD. THUD. Things are being thrown. FADE IN: INT. BEN’S STUDIO CITY APARTMENT - BEDROOM - DAY Over a BOX: A framed picture of BEN (then 26) and KRISTEN (then 25), posed and smiling, lays in a cardboard box. A SHAKE WEIGHT is tossed in, cracking the frame. From the side, the box reads, “KRISTEN’S SHIT.” The “KRISTEN” has been crossed out, with “JUDAS” underneath. A DRESS is tossed into frame, landing outside of the box. BEN BIRNBAUM (now 28) holds a clump of clothing in his vanilla bedroom. He tries to toss it in, but misses. At the door, Ben’s roommate, DAVE FONTAINE (28), eats cereal. DAVE Air ball! Ben looks up and spots Dave. BEN Leave me alone, dude. DAVE Nope. I’m not leaving you alone, Ben. Dr. Phil says to never leave people in the grieving process alone. BEN Dr. Phil? DAVE What? I work nights, I get lonely during the day, he knows some things. Ben sighs and keeps packing up Kristen’s shit. DAVE (CONT’D) Aw, buddy, cheer up. BEN Dave, my girlfriend of two years has been cheating on me for three months so can you give me one week to fucking hate myself? 2. DAVE Nope. I want you to bury those feelings. You know what makes you forget about women? (off Ben’s look) Other women! BEN Did Dr. Phil tell you that? DAVE No, that’s a Dave Fontaine original. (snaps his fingers) You know what you need to do? You need to ask out Sloan Summers.

Welcome to the March edition of Slap. I was hoping to say ‘Spring is in the air’ but I’ve just seen the weather forecast and it’s far from Spring-like. It really feels like it’s been a long winter of discontent with news of more venue closures almost weekly. The latest to go at the end of February was the Pig and Drum in Worcester which has been prominent on the local music seen for a few years now. Thanks to the efforts of landlady Rachel Cale bands from out of town loved playing there. We don’t yet know the long term fate of the Boar’s Mar 2017 Head in Kidderminster since Sid & Sandra announced they’re moving on in the summer, But I don’t think it’ll be the last to go. With business rates rises due very soon and so many people feeling the pinch, these places are really suffering. There are SLAP MAGAZINE rumours of other venues around the counties who may also be Unit 3a, Lowesmoor Wharf, shutting their doors soon. And It’s not just the music scene that Worcester WR1 2RS suffers either, many of these spaces are now multi functional art Telephone: 01905 26660 spaces as well as platforms for comedy, spoken word and poetry.
