Start your review of Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration, Vol. Nov 12, Allison rated it did not like it Shelves: manga. As a passionate fan of the original manga, it was strange reading Restoration. It was like reading a fanfic written by the author, which has the promise to be fun I don't mind alternate universesbut ultimately I just felt disappointed. It was as if Watsuki-san took advantage of the fact that most readers would already know the characters, and rushed through their introductions, and the reasons why they bonded together as a group. I feel badly for anyone picking this up as their first introdu As a passionate fan of the original manga, it was strange reading Restoration. I feel badly for anyone picking this up as their first introduction to Rurouni Kenshin. The slower pace that he uses to build characters and their relationships in the original manga makes for such a rich reading experience, and continues to set it apart for me within the genre. Restoration felt like a condensed and dumbed-down version. Jun 02, Bianca Woods rated it it was ok Shelves: mangaRurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1finished-inown. Take the original Kenshin. Then take out all the good pacing, character development, and general amusement until you're left with just some of Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 most annoying shonen manga tropes. That's what you've got here. I was, no Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1, deeply disappointed by this. Mar 20, Kimberly Souza rated it it was amazing. I love the Rurouni Kenshin series and this new story is great! Can't wait for the next one. Jun 21, Khurram rated it liked it. I Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 help compare these comics to the originals. They are work is good but I have to say I am not a fan of the fight scenes they Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 to be shown in a blur with smudges for the point of impact. The story seem to be rushed, also I am not really a fan of having finishing the volume with a prequel. That could just be me as I hate Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1. However it is annoying have a cliff hanger than a prequel set 5 days before the main story started. The main thing I do like about this volume is that Kenshi I cannot help compare these comics to the originals. The main thing I do like about this volume is that Kenshin is less of a clown when he is not in his fighting persona. Sanosuke as well seems to have jumped a little in his evolution as he has already mastered the 2 layer attack before his first fight with Kenshin. He mentions he lean it from a monk. This is an example of how this is rushed was 3 volumes of the originals and skill learned later on by the characters as they faced greater challenges are squeezed into on. An ok summary and reboot but I prefer the originals. Oct 09, Steve Stivaktis rated it it was Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1. It's incredible how much Watsuki's style has changed over the years, while still keeping the spirit of the first RuroKen volumes. The drawings as well as the humour are finally not that affected by the early 90's manga fashions, but are more personal and definitely classes better than the previous ones. The story is clearly more like a tribute to the old events than a retelling. The drawing lots for who's going to face Kenshin first, and including all the characters that we already know from the It's incredible how much Watsuki's style has changed Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 the years, while still keeping the spirit of the first RuroKen volumes. The drawing lots for who's going to face Kenshin first, and including all the characters that we already know from the first volume is definitely a good way to bring up nostalgia. I don't know how I feel about Kenshin having kind of a split personality "This one becomes a Kenshin didn't turn into Battousai whenever he drew his sword, but whenever the battle was too challenging; he still had enough control to not Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 to warn people before every battle. However, I feel that the reversion from the simple rurouni to the skilled warrior is much more prominent is this version, Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 it comes off much better. In the end, I might like to stick to traditions, but it's an awesome version, and I have to stop myself from buying the next volumes right NOW. Mar 15, Joseph Young rated it it was ok. As someone who's watched the anime, this felt unsatisfying to me. Much was crammed in, and the back stories of a lot of characters were very heavily reduced. The dramatic tension was not as good, as the use of the gatling gun so early on felt cheap! It the anime, Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 marked a dramatic turnabout after a prolonged struggle. I don't think I can recommend this if you are a fan of the anime, but if Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 have never seen it before it might be alright. Apr 11, Cress rated it really liked it Shelves: adventurechildhood-nostalgiamangahistorical-fictionthere-s-an-anime-for-it. Looking at other people freak out over the pacing of this manga is really amusing. This was a sort of light taste of the RK universe meant to rekindle and boost the hype for the live-action movies when they were coming out. Were they the best in terms of backstory? That wasn't Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 point. This was all so we could see some balls-to-the-wall ridiculous action with familiar faces that we might have forgotten about. I going through my old manga and I total forgot about this and now I'm going to read the other Kenshin soon. May 07, Mohd Rukhairy Abdul Rahman rated it Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 it. Although I prefer Watsuki-sensei latest drawing style it feels kinda weird reading this arc as if it has been reboot. The original story has deeper back story especially Sano's Sekigahara story. Apr 22, Christopher Ellis rated it it was amazing. A fresh retelling of the series with nice amount of drama and action. Jan 03, Primadonna rated it really liked it Shelves: manga. I prefer the canon of Rurouni Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1, but this brings back good ol' days and memories. This title, Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration is so named as it is a different take on the famous manga and anime character from Nobuhiro Watsuki. Years after the series originally ended, the author inked a deal for a live-action film about the titular character. To coincide with this film, Watsuki decided to finally pen new Kenshin stories. But he faced a quandary. Where could he place the stories in the existing manga adventures? Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration, Vol. 1 by Nobuhiro Watsuki It is a 2-volume remake of the main series Rurouni Kenshinwhich served to promote the then upcoming live-action film released in August The two volumes were released in June and January Critical response to the manga has been positive, with praise focus on fight scenes though the narrative in general was the subject of mixed opinions, with critics either finding it too light or dark based on fight scenes. Nevertheless, Watsuki's art was the subject of praise, including both his character designs and fight sequences. In DecemberShueisha announced that Watsuki would be putting his then current serialized manga -The Another Tale of Frankenstein- on hold to begin a "reboot" of Rurouni Kenshincalled Rurouni Kenshin: Cinema Versionas a tie-in to the then upcoming live-action film. The series began in the June issue of Jump Squarewhich was released on May 2,[2] [3] and ended in the July issue on June 4, Inspired by the film, Watsuki wanted to reintroduce Kenshin's character in a new manga. Watsuki thought about redesigning the cast but Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 to stay true to the originals' looks. Instead he made subtle changes including Kenshin's scarf and Saito wearing a more realistic outfit. The reboot depicts the battles that Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 featured in the first live-action film. In a review about the series' reboot, Publishers Weekly praised the manga for appealing to both newcomers as well as old fans of Rurouni Kenshin. The reviewer also noted the manga had light parts during its comedy which Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 found strange in the samurai genre. The artwork was praised by ICv2 for how Watsuki handles fight scenes among Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration: 1 other details. In Japan, the manga was well received, with the second volume reaching 82, sales. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Weekly Shonen Jump. Viz Media. Retrieved October 17, Anime News Network.
